Cruise drinking policy for 20 year old?

im going with NCL to the caribbean and im 20. im going with my friend that is 24. it says on the NCL FAQ website...

NCL permits guests between the ages of eighteen (18) and twenty (20) to purchase and personally consume wine and beer while on NCL ships with the consent of an accompanying parent or legal guardian on the same sailing once the vessel is outside the US state territorial waters (3 miles out)

but i dont understand because technically i dont have a legal guardian since i am 20 so could my friend be considered my guardian on the ship?

NCL has the slackest policy of all of them. As soon as you get to internatinoal waters, they serve you liquor. I was 20 with my cousin when we went on a NCL cruise. They served us the whole time but the last night as we were sailing into Miami the moment we hit US waters the bartender said "no you aren't 21".

If you are goign to the Caribbean, look up the drinking age on the islands. Some it's 16. You can buy alcohol on the island. Your friend can also bring back bottles--which they return to you the last night early enough to have a big party that night.

I will get thumbs down for this answer b/c I told you reality of the NCL line and not the US law about alcohol (which people--she will not be in the US so that doesn't matter). At our table for dinner we all alternated who bought the wine for dinner. Only the 16yo was not allowed to buy a bottle of wine. The rest of us were 19 or 20--only one of the group had a parent or guardian there. They never asked the parent or guardian either.

No your friend cant be considered your guardian. It must be your parents or if adopted etc. You can always drink in bahamas etc! who will know there!

If all else fails, have your 24 year old friend purchase the drinks by the pool. Also, you can sit in the pub while ashore.

Bill in Kansas
Not 21 = no drinking on board

you are considered a minor on most cruises until you are 21.The majority of them wont even allow you to purchase a ticket if you are under 21 unless you are accompanied by an adult over 21.If your friend is 24 then you should be fine ...
