Cruise ship and phone service?

Hi I'm going on a cruise on Oct 13th
I wanted to know if there is phone service available on board, both cell phone and just the ships phone. How much do you think it would cost? I'm leaving from Port Canavral FL to the Bahamas
Thanks!

Telephones are available in each cabin, and you can indeed use them to call people off the ship. However, the prices are simply astronomical. Cell phones work on many but not all ships, but you will be paying huge fees with those, too, because of the international roaming charges and related fees, which are almost never covered as a part of any cell plan. Unless you have a true emergency, it doesn't make sense to try to call friends and family from a ship! You will note that the ship's crew members flock to telephones on shore at the various ports of call, and that is the least expensive option for you, too. If you absolutely need to stay in touch, think about using e-mail from the ship. There is also a hefty fee for that on most ships, but it is less than phone use. As to exactly how much the fees are for ship-to-shore phone and e-mail, you will need to get those numbers from the cruise line. They vary from company to company, but are always very high. So -- why not just skip the phone bit entirely, stay out of the ship's computer center, and send a postcard home instead?

Ship to shore phone service is available for $7.95 per minute.

Cellular service may be available depending on your carrier and whether or not the ship is equipped with cell towers. International roaming charges may apply.

They do have phones on-board but it is REALLY expensive to make a call home. When I was 19 my parents went on a cruise, their basement flooded. I had to contact them, I couldn't get them, left a message in their room, I was charged $25 just for a 1 minute phone call. They called me back for about 5 minutes and it was about $45. So it's a rip off!

Depending on your cell serive providor you could have cell phone service. You will be charged international rates which are INSANE, so limit your use or stop using it completely. You can use ship to shore phone service, but again the charges are INSANE. Its a vacation, leave the cell at home along with that life and enjoy yourself.

Some cruiseships will have cell phone service, check with the cruise line company.
Yes, usually every state room has a phone you can use. It costs about 7 to 9 dollars per minute, so I would only use it in a REALLY bad emergency. Take your cell phone with you and activate international calls, and when you are at a port, use it there.
