Ive just finished my level 3 (advanced) beauty therapy and i have been advised to work on the cruises to save for university!
i think its a really good idea and i have the personality to do something like this, its been one of my dreams since i was younger!
ive heard its really hard to get a job though, apparently it all depends on age and experience! i am 18years old and have been working in a salon for 2years!
has anyone got any tips on how i could apply or any tips on getting a job on the ships in general????thanks 4 all suggestions :) xXX

Actually, you can't apply directly to the cruiseline as the other answers suggest.

There are only two company's that supply spa services for cruiselines and one looks after 95% of ships. Look at www.str.co.uk and follow the links for recruitment days in your country.

You have a good chance with your experience but remember that they are very retail oriented so remember to mention this in your interview. Also send a full length photo is smart attire and a copy of your qualifications.

My wife works for Steiner so If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me (her).

find a cruise line and apply, they will take you on if your papers are in order, the pay is crappy and you must prove yourself or thats the last trip you go on with them, the more you learn of the ship and the crews the better for you and them , hope this helps

Before you do ANYTHING: check this out:
Crewz Viewz A Page of Information For and From Crew Members http://www.cruisejunkie.com/crewz_viewz.html

i've heard that working on a cruise ship is like indentured servitude. you share cramped quarters with 3 or 4 other employees (of the same sex, of course!). and the management and security team monitor and micromanage you to the point of disbelief. on top of that, you're in a contained environment, so if you have any sea sickness or claustrophobia: you're screwed. not to mention all the diseases that have been plaguing the cruise ship industry (checkout the URL for all the specifics!)

Not to rain on your parade, but I just found out about this cruisejunkie.com, and wanted to share. Consider finding a college adjacent to a large spa (that will provide opportunity for promotion, continuing education, etc.) That way you can work and go to school. Best wishes.

It is very hard to get a job on a ship if you are american....are you?
Because of the work conditions, they mostly hire non americans where they can take their passports and be in full control of their workers.......it's alot of work but fun if you can get on......long hours, ok living conditions...... but you are young and can endure anything as i did at your age.....just go to each individual cruise web site and take it from there.....good luck
