Cruise to Bahamas... what are passport requirements? |
A friend showed me some text that said that it was still legal to use only a certified birth certificate, social security card, and state ID. But my mother and a friend's mother saw, while on vacation in Bahamas, that a passport was required to board the ship again FROM the Bahamas.
Also, would there be an issue REentering the states without a passport? |

sally b is correct for loop cruises.. but some cruise lines insist on a passport. Check with your specific cruiseline for thier policy.
After June 2009.. everyone will need a passport. |

I went on a trip to the Bahamas and a passport is a MUST. It is not so hard getting in the Bahamas as it is getting back into the US, however a passport is required both ways. I wouldn't risk the birth certificate, social security card, and state id. You can get passports made at your local post office, but do it soon because they have to ship in the information and then ship it back to you, and it can take some time. |

I'm going on my first cruise in March and I was told I would have to have a passport. I also was told you could use the passport card for a cruise, but that is only if you plan on staying on the ship and not getting off at port. I would defiantly recommend getting a passport book, yes it is expensive but it's good for 10 years and who knows when you might need it again.
Also I applied for mine and received it 13 days later (that's including weekends.) Same with my husband he had to apply for his in another state due to being out of state for work and received his in 10 days so it really doesn't take that long as long as everything checks out.
I've also heard that you will not be allowed back into US without a passport.

Passports are not required for cruise to and from Bahamas until June. It would be required if flying, but not cruising. |
