Cruise travel is it safe at all?

Christmas found a woman mysteriously missing, a body fallen from the balconey yet no body to discover. Today another body fallen supposedly an "accident". The woman who was on her honeymoon with her husband who was previously arrested for domestic violence, well she was the last of six previous deaths of people "falling" overboard. Now one has to wonder, if so many deaths are accidential and if murders are committed and if there isnt a body to convict arent you a bit nervous. You may trust your husband, wife or other, but one person was thrown overboard by a mentally ill person who wanted to know what if felt like to throw someone overboard. That is seven people falling overboard mysteriously for 2008 and now we have a new one today. The perfect crime they say. Research it if you do not believe me. Then take into account bedbugs, listeria fears, sars, and supposedly rape by the crew to women who have had too much to drink, and the rapes go unreported to the public from shame. People are saying cruises have become very very dangerous. Now add pirates to the stew. My advice ......FLY

I am posting because if i can help ONE person avoid the dangers of cruises then I feel very good inside. I saw a special on tv about it. Just research what I am saying BEFORE you actually think of a cruise. I have Nothing to Gain or loose by being upfront and honest. I just feel cruises the dangers of them are kept from the general public and that is NOT fair.

I saw a special on tv about the rapes of the woman that are hidden from the public. I also heard about the many mysterious people falling overboard, the perfect crime. Scary. I know about the Sars that was common on one cruise line I am not sure which one but they had to empty the ship and disinfect everything. Bed bugs are very common as you said and they are a nightmare. I wouldnt take a cruise. Too easy for disease to spread. Much too easy.

writerchick3
Do you honestly believe everything you hear on tv? If you do, you make me sad. Do you also believe that its safer to fly?

I don't understand you. You sound like you're afraid to leave your house.

And you know what, I was raped in my own home! So you don't have to be on a stupid cruise for that.

Quit trying to ruin things for everyone.

Jackson R
First of all nothing is safe. All of those things that happened on the cruise ships can happen to you in your own house, or at a local restaurant or mall. Think about that.

And second you shouldn't believe everything on tv. I am not saying you are wrong because I don't know whether that's true or not, but the media does stretch and overexaggerate many things and all of the time.

James Heard
Cruising is very safe. I wouldn't worry about stuff like that. Remember all the bad stuff that has happened. Their must be more to those stories that the victim's or their families don't share with the public. Like maybe the victim themselves where half at fault or completely at fault as to what happened to them.

This is just my opinion believe what you want. But I won't let stuff like this stop me from doing what I love.

You keep posting all these negative things about the cruise industry. So either you had a bad experience or are just an un happy person. There is misfortune is all walks of life. Sad but, true. I feel sorry for you. You DO NOT HAVE ALL THE FACTS yet you are blaming the whole industry. People die every day for one reason or another that Ms is a fact. Nothing we can due to change that. Yes, there are people out there they want to take advantage of others. Also a fact. Millions of people cruise every year without a single problem. Also a fact. I think you should talk to someone about your concerns.

Achaholic
This is an inflammatory hearsay argument with no statistics or statements of facts to back it up.

Here are some facts based on a report of 31 million cruisers between 2003 - 2005:

206 complaints filed by crew and passengers combined.
178 of which were sexual assault
4 robberies
24 missing persons

That is less than .000006% chance of having anything happening.

Has this person ever been on a cruise? They are very strict above cleanliness. They hand out anti-bacterial wipes to every individuals that goes to the buffet line.

Every vacation has some degree of risk. People act stupid and take risks that they normally would not while on vacation. Most of the crimes and bad things that happen while on a cruise are the result of bad decisions made by the individual.

Talk to anyone who has been on a cruise and they will tell you what a wonderful vacation experience it was. Don't let this irrational fear mongering sway you.

Okay, you have to realize that people make their own decisions! I"m going on a cruise tomorrow with a very loving boyfriend of 5 years who would never throw me overboard! I'm also going with a group of people so I am never going to be alone..So, I dont think i'm going to mysteriously fall overboard. Also, the best thing about cruises is that you can travel and be in a resort at the same time. You can't swim, play golf, go to a club, eat fancy foods, go to the spa, and play in a casino on a plane! And when you talk about SARS and crap, you can get that by infected people on a plane as well or any other public transportation. You would not do well living in NYC! Everyday I get on the subway full of random people and get to where I need to go all without getting sick or dying of some random disease. You wouldn't survive 5 seconds in NYC. I understand you want to warn people about this but you are the type to read one thing on the subject and then FREAK out over it. The general public is aware of these crimes that take place and thats why they always tell you to be aware of your surroundings. Plus, when you book with higher end cruise lines you are less likely to run into ghetto behavior. I'm going on a cruise TOMORROW and I can't wait!!!!!! And your postings didn't do anything for me but piss me off! :) so thank you, you have officially pissed me off. But thats okay, I'll be having a blast for 10 days on a very high end cruise ship going to awesome warm places! :)

YAY, CRUISES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

C'mon, are you serious? I've got one for you!! Did you know more people we're murdered in Chicago last month than there was soldiers in Irac? Cruising is probably one of the safest ( not to mention BEST ) ways to travel of all of em..

It is not the cruise ship's fault that a woman got pushed/fell off.

Bub
It is considered safe, just like flying, the number of passengers and miles sailed/flown generates stats that show per mile/person it is safe. Really though, nothing is safe, not even staying at home. Break ins while the owner is home is on the increase. Planes are crashing and sliding off runways every year. Maybe you could stand in a locked closet and hope no one knocks on the door?

PugMom
7 people in 365 days? Now what about the hundreds of thousands who have died from automobile accidents? Should we no longer drive anywhere?

You are right I have heard the dangers of taking a cruise are growing yet it is kept hush hush from the general public. I have heard of the bedbugs and once you get them its horrible to get rid of and its quite common on the best of ships. NO Thank you
