Cruise without passport? |
My girlfriend is leaving for a cruise tomorrow out of Miami , and is allready there. She dosnet have her birth certifate but she has her photo ID. And the cruise is going to the carribean, can she obtain a Visa and still go on the cruise?
Additional Details
She is there with her parents who have all their paper work, and her friend, she seems to think that she will be able to get on with just a photo ID, Is this true? |

In your question you say "passport." In your additional comment, you say Visa." They are not the same thing. If she is going on a cruise that begins and ends in the United States she is not required by law to have a passport. Some cruise lined like all passengers to have a passport, but the law for passports for SEA travel to the Caribbean does not go into effect until after SUMMER 2008. See website below and read top half of page for current info. If she needed a visa to enter any country on the trip, I think the cruise line would have said so...and sometimes they take care of getting visas for passengers. She would not need a visa for Mexico, American Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands for sure. Have they told her she needs a passport or a visa? |

She will need a birth certificate and a state issued photo ID card or Drivers License. Passports will be required on all cruises as of July 2008. Without these 2 Id's, she will not be allowed to board the ship. |

A passport is not required until 2008. If she boarded the ship without a birth certificate, I am sure she is safe. I had to have mine when I have gone on cruises, but maybe she didn't. I really don't have the answer to this. :) |
