Normally cruises give you about 8 to 12 hours in a port city. BUT, tell your parents to do a cruise to Bermuda. When you cruise to Bermuda you dock and one or two of the ports there and spend all of your time at/on that island. You can do a 6 or 7 day cruise to Bermuda from several east coast cities from Boston to South Carolina. That will give you about 3 days in Bermuda and that is more than enough time to see and do whats there. Plus Bermuda is very different from Caribbean islands because it has no slums. All of the houses are very well maintained. The way to get around Bermuda is by bus and ferry and you can buy a transportation pass that will allow you unlimited use of the buses and ferry for the number of days that you purchase.

My suggestion is take a 5 day cruise to Bermuda on Royal Caribbean's Explorer of the Seas. That's a great ship (I have been on other RC ships which are identical). Here's one cruise: http://www.royalcaribbean.com/findacruise/cruiseDetails/itineraryAndPricing.do;jsessionid=0000X8efnOhQR6mugW-MBklblGt:12hdhu6tq?packageCode=EX05B023&date=ANY&selectedCurrencyCode=&promoType=&hasSenior=&hasMilitary=&state=

Or, do a 9-night cruise on that same ship to Bermuda and the Bahamas: http://www.royalcaribbean.com/findacruise/cruiseDetails/itineraryAndPricing.do;jsessionid=0000X8efnOhQR6mugW-MBklblGt:12hdhu6tq?packageCode=EX09L029&date=ANY&selectedCurrencyCode=&promoType=&hasSenior=&hasMilitary=&state=

You will still have 2 days in Bermuda.

My parents love cruises! We go on them a lot, and at first they weren't so sure, but here's some reasons why they learned to love them:

-If you go on a nice (not Carnival, but not one with 0 kids--I suggest Princess) cruise, your parents will find so many things to do on the boat. My parents personally like to relax on the deck and read, so since there aren't as many kids as, say, a Disney cruise, they can still enjoy themselves while you enjoy yourself with other kids.
-You usually get one day at a port. That's perfectly enough time, though, because you have the ENTIRE day (early morning-evening) to explore, sightsee, snorkel, shop, swim...etc.
-The people are so friendly. Most of the passengers are and all of the staff are.
-Your parents won't have to watch after you all day. I'm 14 and I don't have any siblings, so I go to the teen club and meet lots of friends. I have dinner and explore the ports with my parents, but when I'm on the ship I'm normally with the friends that I meet. They're really easy to make too!
-The cruise line gives you so many suggestions on what to do at the ports. Sure, some of them are very crowded because of all of the cruises arriving, but it's easy to find less crowded tours and activities that are a lot of fun.

I really hope you get to go on a cruise with your parents soon! :)

Usually, the ship is docked at the port for 8-12 hrs (it will say the times if you look at the itinerary) You usually get the entire day (say like 7am to like 8pm or something) to explore the ports and the ship is "on the road" at night. The actual time you get to spend at each port will vary a little, but generally, you still get a good amount of time.

At some ports the ship stops for 4 hours, at other parts it stops for 10 hours, it varies. I have been on two cruises and was able to see the entire grand cayman island in under 4 hours ! It can be done and we were not rushed, we had time to shop too ! Cruising is alot of fun.

Maybe you can do some research online with your parents and view different ports and ships to see what woudl interest them. You can also go to cruisecritic.com and read those message boards on what people say about cruising. Once they try it they may love it! Although you are not in a port for usually more than 8-12 hours it gives you a sneak peak sort of at different places, plus there is tons of stuff to do on board. Cruises can be the best vactions!
