Cruises with 18 drinking age?

Carnival, Celebrity, Holland America, Princess, Regent Seven Seas and Royal Caribbean all require guests to be 21 to consume alcohol for ALL itineraries.
Norwegian allows 18 and up to purchase wine and beer as long as they are sailing with a parent.

You should visit the websites for the cruiselines that have been reported as allowing alcohol consumption under 21. A quick search on their websites will show their guest contracts. For example, Oceania now requires guests to be at least 21 years old to drink. From their site/contract: "The sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages will be limited to guests aged 21 years or older. Oceania Cruises will refuse and prohibits the sale or service of alcoholic beverages to guests under the age of 21 years."

Most cruise lines register their ships in foreign countries for a variety of reasons and so the drinking age is established by the cruise line's policies, not where the ship is registered or where it is docked. Many lines allow for exceptions when the cruise's port of embarkation is in a country with a lower age than 21.

You will not find any cruise ships operating out of US ports that allow you to drink alcoholic beverages under the age of 18. The legal drink age on ALL cruise ships is age 21 and, contrary to what some people think, it does not change when you are in international waters or docked in a foreign port. Its still age 21 and older. And all of the cruise lines DO enforce it. The only exception to this is if you cruise from a European or South American port with your parents and your parents sign a waiver for you to have beer and wine. Otherwise always no.

BUT, when you get to ports in the Caribbean and Mexico, as well as most other places, you CAN drink alcoholic beverages all you want in the clubs, bars, and restaurants because the drinking age is age 18 and older. However, you cannot bring alcohol back on board the ship either as it will be confiscated by the cruise line.

All of the cruise line web sites will have a specific statement about this some place on their web site.

Cruises that go places outside of the United States where the drinking age is 18 will allow you to drink while on that island or out at sea only. When docked at the port here in the United States, even while on board, you cannot drink.

Places like the Bahamas, Mexico, and 99% of places in the carribbean are all places that will allow you to drink while on the cruise docked in that city, or at sea.

I agree with Tinkertoy.. But if the cruise is registered in a European or a country where the legal drinking age is 18, then they are allowed to drink on the ship. MSC cruises since they cruise in the Caribbean allow 18 year olds to drink on the cruise since they are registered in Europe where the legal drinking age is 18, though they do deport from a US port. Not exactly sure on all the exceptions and details.. but I also hear they allow wine with dinner for teens, like they do in Europe.

They are high end cruise lines and very expensive. Most are not based in the US either.

I've been on several cruises and know that Carnival Cruise Lines
permits guests to drink if they are 18 once the ship is out at sea.
