Cruises without bad dress codes? |
Are there any CA cruises that don't require you to be a stuck up snob? Their "casual" dinner dress code is no jeans or t shirt. *shudders* and their semi formal is usually formal. It makes one dread the required formal nights. I thought a cruise would be a nice cheap vacation but this sounds worse that going to work!! |

First of all unless you go on one of the luxury cruise lines like Seaborn, Regent Seven Seas, or Crystal where things are pretty much required semi formal to Formal all of the time, the dress on cruise ships for dinner is REQUESTED, not required. On formal nights that is the requested attire. But if you choose not to "dress up' you can still go to the show room, the casino, the disco, and main dining room for dinner as long as you are at least sports/resort casual. And that just means slacks and a shirt with a collar. They don't want to see you in the main dining room in "T" shirts, baggy/ragged//faded jeans, and/or flip flops. The MatrD will likely ask you to leave or go change if you show up that way.
BUT, you could wear a pair of good jeans, like pleated Guess or Hilfiggers, with a shirt with a collar and be OK on most any cruise line line Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Carnival or Princess. Plus, if you don't want to eat formally, i.e., with a waiter, you can on every ship go to the casual dining places which is usually a buffet. And every cruise line has a casual place or two.
Then if you really want to be casual all of the time and easily fit in with other who want that then just go on a Norwegian cruise line ship. NCL advertises "Freestyle" cruising which basically means casual dining for dinner every day and evening. They actually call their formal night, "dress up if you want to" night.
You would also be fine going casual on Carnival or Royal Caribbean as both cater to young people, families and kids. |

i go on the Princess cruise line and there's an option to sign up for casual dining if you want. You can also eat at one of the other resturants, go to the pizza or grill, or the 24 hour buffet. |

Time travler

Lots of folks never dress up and eat all their dinners in the buffet. The only requirement there is no swim wear. The food is the same as in the dinning room, but you serve yourself and miss the fancy food presentation. Just one more thought. Unless you have to wear formal clothes at work, I think it is fun to dress up. It is not stuck up at all and brings out the best of you. |

Norwegian Cruise Line is known for the "freestyle cruises" which means that you can eat dinner whenever you want and dress however you want.

The formal dress is encouraged, not mandatory. Some cruise lines are less strict with this. I've heard that Celebrity is more so, while Carnival and RCCL are less so. You can always eat up on the Lido deck on formal nights if you think you'd feel like a white man in Harlem going to dinner without a suit or evening gown. |
