I'm no expert on cruising, but have been on about 5 cruises over the past few years and what I've noticed is,...it's not the cruise line, it's the destination. Longer cruises that are a bit more expensive such as Hawaii, Europe etc, tend to have a more mature crowd and the shorter cruises that are not as expensive tend to have the younger party crowd.
Has anyone else noticed this? |

I prefer Princess cruise lines. You will find a nice mix of ages that cruise with Princess, plus the activities seem to be for more of the over 30 group. They do have lots of kid programs, don't get me wrong, but they also have things like art auctions, guest speakers, martini demo's, and flower demo's. Things that are more suited for the older crowd. |

My husband and I have booked ourselves on the newest Celebrity ship Solstice. leaving out of Rome May 4th. 2009 It is a brand new ship and caters more to adults. If you choose cruises when the kids are all still in school and not on vacation you should be fine, there are many ships and cruises to choose from and most will have a few children on them but it's really no bother having a few children around. UNLESS you just don't like children . Personally I do, so it's not an issue with us, and Were over 40 too. |

i find that the longer the cruise the less "kids", both young and 20ish there is . also while school is on is a good way to avoid that younger crowd. but i must say some times the "older crowd" can be rather childish.. |

Certainly Holland America. OK I know that they have a reputation for catering to "very old" passengers. The jokes about all the walkers and wheelchairs isn't much of an exaggeration. But all jokes aside, it is better for people who are not necessarily into partying all night.
If you are now looking for some quiet sophistication it is the one I recommend.
That having been said. I understand that Celebrity cruise line, is like Holland America with a contemporary twist. I Haven't sailed Celebrity myself but you could look into that as well |

I've worked for both Carnival Cruise Lines and Oceania Cruise Lines.
Although they are 2 COMPLETELY different cruise lines they both offer a great product. It all depends what you are looking for. Is it about the destination? Want a big ship/small ship? To relax? Do you have a budget? Etc. Once you've figured that out you can narrow it down to what cruise line suits you. Cruisecritic.com answers a lot of questions from people who know sailing. There are so many cruise lines to chose from other than the well known brands.
Oceania caters to an older crowd (sometimes really old but also fun). There are rarely any kids on the ship, it is a destination-oriented cruise line, its small and not crowded, the food is great and I think the service is wonderful (obviously). There is minimal entertainment because the ports of call are really the entertainment. Unlike the big name brands, they stay in port longer and have fewer sea days. Its more expensive than Royal or Princess but I think its worth it. Its similar to cruising with Seabourn or Regent but at a more affordable price.
Whatever you chose, it'll be great. Enjoy your vacation! |

Honey, you aren't even halfway to old yet. We like Norwegian Cruise lines. There aren't many facilities for kids, but adults are pampered and the restrictions are few. Take a look online and see what you think. |

My wife and I have been crusiing for 8 years now and are 52 and 57 years of age. I strongly recommend Royal Caribbean and Princess, particularly when school is in session. Even in the summers though most kids go on Carnival. |

In the "mass market" lines, take a look at Celebrity, Holland and, perhaps, Princess. Go to CruiseCritic.com and browse the "Reviews" [at top of page], especially "Member Reviews" and "Boards" and "Cruise Styles". Lots of great info from experienced cruisers.

What you are looking for is Holland America. The majority of their passengers are 40 and up. Although, I'll warn you, those senior citizens can stay up and party with the best of them. I'm just under 40 and I'm usually one of the youngest on the ship (I like it this way). You have less screaming kids, less teens, less trouble, etc. The activities are more adult oriented. |

I suggest you meet with a travel agent who books a lot of cruises. There are excellent choices available to you, and a travel agent can match you with the cruise line that most closely meets your wants and needs. |
