Hurrican season is no joke in the Caribbean. The Carnival Miracle almost had a riot because the Captain made a decision to redirect the ship to avoid a hurricane. You should think long and hard when you plan a cruise in the Caribbean during hurricane season. You may not get to see your ports of call and you may be in for a rough ride. |

If a hurricane(s) brew up in the Gulf, your captain will re-route the ship to a save port.
September is a pretty active time for hurricanes. Ike hit in Sept. and Katrina hit in late August.
However, hurricanes can hit anytime in the season. We were on the RC Rhapsody of the Seas in July 2005 and got caught between Tropical Storm Cindy and Hurricane Dennis. The captain re-routed us to Progresso, Mexico were we rode out the storm.
Our itinerary was messed up which caused some issues the the shore excursions and we had to by-pass Grand Caymans all together.
After a few nights of rocky seas, we still had a cruise vacation. |

I think that September is a perfect time to cruise. That is if it is after Labor day. All the children will be back in school and a lot of people will be back to work by than. Have Fun!!!! |

The hurricane season does not end until October 31st, so if you go to the Caribbean in September, you have to worry about hurricanes. Many cruise companies don't even go to the Caribbean during hurricane season because of this risk. |

I went on Carnival to Grand Cayman and Cozumel October 6, 2008 and, overall, the weather was PERFECT.
It rained every day but only for a short time.
It wasn't too bad in Grand Cayman but in Cozumel???OMG after the rain stopped, I was wetter from humidity than I was from the rain!
During our excursion to the Mayan Ruins of Tulum, the temperature was over 100 degrees and the humidity was 100% (that's what the tour guide told us)
Keep in mind that the height of hurricane season is August through October. You never know from one year to the next if or when a hurricane will hit the area you're going to. Just insure your trip and cast away your worries. There are worse things to ruin a vacation than a hurricane.
Back home, my husband's brother died while we were at sea day 2 of our 5-day trip, we barely made it back home in time for the funeral. On day 5, someone down the hall from us committed suicide on the ship.
Hurricane were the biggest of our worries until my brother-in-law got sick.
Hurricane season makes travelling cheaper anyway! Go enjoy yourself.
In September I'm going on Carnival Destiny to Grand Turk, Half Moon Cay and Nassau.
