Danger of going on cruise to Mexico? |
My wife and I are hoping to go on a cruise to Mexico (Cabo, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta) and I am wondering how safe it would be. I have never been to Mexico, but my wife went on the same cruise 7 years ago. I know the border is very unsafe right now, but how about those tourist locations? Are they safe? One safer than another?
Additional Details
Has anyone been in these destinations in the last month that would know the atmosphere there? Has anyone heard of anything dangerous happening in those locations, with references? I don't need to worry about the places in between so much because i will be on a cruise ship. Thanks! |

I'm an american that has lived in Cabo for the last 3 years. I can honestly say that Cabo is probably safer than some US cities. Cabo's economy is 100% tourism. Everything you hear on the news in the US is centered around places that no one would ever visit.
Will people try to convince you to buy things you don't need, YES. It's how they make a living.
I just had family here for a week and they had a blast. I can only speak for Cabo and I can honestly say it's safe. |

Well actually it is really ok.. the problem is mostly on borders with the whole drug problem.. but the tourist cities are fine and they have really stepped it the secruity over ther.. I just got back from there.. its totally safe.. and if your stil nervous just stick with the cruise's shore excertions.. hope I helped because the trip was reallly fun.. had no problems |

I was on a cruise last November which went to Ensenada(not a real safe place). The cruise line basically told us to only shop at the port and go on an excursion with the cruise company. They said DO NOT wander around town on your own. So, I would say all your ports are most likely fine, but perhaps you would feel safer if you went on a shore excursion with the cruise ship. That is what I would do if I were cruising to Mexico at this time. |

I wouldn't go right now, but i went on that same exact trip (Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan, Puerta Vallarta) in November and I saw no danger when I was there. But I'd wait a while first. |

You ask the question and you have the doubt. I would not go to Mexico at the moment. There are safer and more pleasant locations, never mind. Maybe the tourist locations are safe - maybe - safe, but what about in between?. No, I'd stay away from there. |
