Do I need a Passport? |
I am taking a cruise to mexico during april. On the USA passport website it says you need a passport if your traveling to mexico by AIR, if your not traveling by air and traveling by boat do you still need a passport? |

The page you read means EXACTLY WHAT IT SAYS. You need a passport to FLY to and from Mexico. You do Not need a passport tp travel to Mexico by LAND or SEA at this time. That requirement will not start until after summer of 2008. See website below and read top half of the page for the CURRENT announcement just released a few days ago. Now, SOME cruise lines require their passengers to have passports even tho the law does not. so it is best to CALL your cruise line and ASK to be safe. All that being said, it is WISE to get a passport before summer of 2008, as there will surely be another grand rush then, and you will need to possess a passport for ALL travel after that time. See 2nd website to verify that passengers on ROUND-TRIP cruises do not need passport at this time. x |

travel by AIRLINES you need a passport. BUT within 5 months you will need one for all travel in and out of the country.
i would start the process now. TALK to your travel agent / and or cruiseline.

I would get one if you plan on getting off the boat. because then your entering a forign country and if you have any problems or miss your boat your gonna wish you had one. |

YES you will need a passport for any type travel outside of the US by any means, car, plane, train, bus, cruise ship, starting January 1, 2008. All of the people who said yes you need a passport are correct. I have looked at the US Passport office web site and there is nothing there that changes the rule requiring a passport to reenter the US starting January 1, 2008. So you best apply for one now so that you have it well ahead of your scheduled cruise date.

Now is a great time to apply for a passport. The State Department has now cleared through the huge backlog of applications. It is now back to 6-8 weeks for regular applications and 3 weeks for renewals. I'd do it now before all the people wanting passports for next winter/spring season start applying and creating another backlog. Bon Voyage. |

When I took a cruise to Mexico a couple years ago I did not need a passport.
However, it is a different story to SUGGEST bringing a passport. If anything happens while you are on land (ex: police or medical emergency) you will certainly need a passport.
If you don't plan to leave the ship it will probably not be required.
If you have a passport you should bring it or make a copy. If you don't you should make a copy of your birth certificate and social security card and bring it with you. |

i think i saw on the news yesterday about in a couple of months that your going to need a passport to get in the country in any way land air water. but you should take your passport anyway just in case |
