They highly reccomend getting one but I took a cruise to Cozumel/Grand Caymans and I just had my birth certificate with me. I was 23 at the time of my trip. i would get one. If there is an issue while you are traveling, they might not let you into the country w/o a passport |

You may not legally need a passport but most cruise lines now days insist on a passport as a means of identification before they allow you to board the ship. Contact the cruise line and confirm their policy to be sure. |

Best & simplest way to remember the confusion on passport requirements is this : If you plan on leaving the US, you need a passport! |

It depends on where the departure port is and where you'll be cruising to.
If you're sailing internationally you will NEED a passport.
And you should do it ASAP, b/c it takes about 6 weeks to for the paperwork to process and for them to issue and mail it to you. |
