Yes, you will need a passport. My family and I went through this last year when we took a cruise. We were told we had to have one by the end of that year if we wanted to travel in 2007. When Katrina hit, the deadline for passports was pushed back to 2007 for travel in 2008. So, there you go. The best thing to do is to check with the passport office in your area or online.

I don't think so but it's a good thing to have.

Yes as of 2006 any US citizen needs a passport to exit and enter this country, even a cruise.

goodyis2cute
it depends on what island...but most of the time it works like this... You are US 's poperty so you do not need a passport only if you are on a plane!

sosickofred
Not until 2007

It depends when you are going. At this point, all you need is photo I.D. and a raised seal birth certificate. If you are going around mid December, you will need a passport.

If the cruise line isn't asking for your passport number, you don't need to have one.

Smudgeward
Unless you are a pirate.

You may not need a passport if you are going cruising and complete it before the end of this year. But it will save you a lot of hassle and MOST IMPORTANTLY, a passport is required of all US citizens to reenter the USA starting January 1, 2007. So just get the passport for now and you will be set for 10 years. The web site below will answer all of your questions about passports.
