Here is the CORRECT info. Loop cruises ( that begin and end in the same U.S. port ) no NOT require passports. See site below.

yanet1009
If you are a US citizen traveling before June 2009 you only need a state ID (for example your license) and proof of citizenship (birth certificate or certificate of naturalization). On and after June 2009, you will need a valid passport and a state ID.

If you are a US resident traveling before June 2009 you only need your resident card and a state ID (ex. license). (Passport is recommended) On and after June 2009, you will need a valid passport, resident card, and state ID.

This information is for when you are traveling by air, land, and sea to the Caribbean, Mexico, Canada, and I believe the Bermuda.

Verify this information - http://www.state.gov/

If you are a US citizen, the answer is no. It is sufficient to present:

1) Proof of citizenship: Original or certified copy of Birth Certificate or Naturalization card

2) Photo ID: Government issued photo i.d. such as valid driver's license

If you are not a US citizen, you would need a passport.

The above information is correct for travel until May 31, 2009.

As of January 23, 2007, passports were required for all travelers, including citizens of the U.S. and Canada, who enter or re-enter the U.S. by air. The passport requirement will be extended to include entries into the U.S. by land and by sea on June 1, 2009.

However, ask your cruise line to double-check or visit their web site and look for document requirements.

After June 1, 2009 you will need a passport when traveling outside the US. Even by cruiseship.

Before that date.. you need a birth certificate and Photo ID.

Elle
Yes, you will need a passport. Laws have changed about loop cruises, and now you are required to have a passport when leaving the country.

Ok, a two day cruise.
If you leave FT Lauderdale, and come back in FT lauderdale, no.
If the cruise leaves from the US, and ends in the bahamas then you need one.

Im sure of this, cruise alot from miami/mobile, and never use a passport.
You will need ID and birth certificate if you dont have a passport. and most be US citizen

You should check out the information from the US State Department, web site www.state.gov. There is a LOT of misinformation floating around about passports, unfortunately, and if it turns out that you need one and do not have it, you will not be allowed to board the ship and will not get a refund. Also, apply for passports early rather than later, since there is a deadline coming up soon and the passport offices are literally swimming in applications!

Yes, you always need a passport if you going out of the United States. Have fun =D

LMNT
Not if your not taking any planes.
For the boat you won't need your passport.
