If you are an American citizen, passports will not be needed for sea travel to the Caribbean and the Bahamas until June 2009. However, some cruise lines want all paseners to have passport, so it is wise to call and ask their policy.

I would get one just to be safe. From what I hear they pushed back the deadline for cruise travel until June 2009 but since the Bahamas are not apart of the US it would be much easier going through customs if you had a passport. Call the cruise line directly and ask them their official policy.

If you are going on a cruise you will just need a birth certificate and photo id until june of 2009 for cruise travel.

With a passport application right here in front of me: Yes, but only the card format. You may obtain an application at your post office

YES you do need one. You have time to apply for one now if you do not have one.

$100 for a passport if you want it in regular time which is 4-6 weeks.
$160 if you need it rushed which takes 2-3 weeks.

Make sure if you are applying for one your information is up to date and nothing is expired because anything that looks suspisious will cause a pause in your application process and they will send you a letter about it.

If you have any problems contact your Congressman or woman, they will help you out a lot.

Yes. The Bahamas are not part of the US, neither is it a territory of the US(like Puerto Rico or Guam are).

YES,..anything the US does not own..you need a passport. We own hawaii, us virgin islands, ect.. but not the bahamas. They are their own gov.

PASSPORT is a document showing the entity of an individual exhibiting where from he belongs to. In case of any state within the purview of US govt no documents is needed , but the Bahamas are the island of Carabian sea . Anywhere one travels outside the air or water boundries of the country needs visa of the country where he goes for any reason . But by virtue of the treaty made by the govt . , U.S. citizens do not need to obtain visas to visit the Bahamas. However, U.S. citizens planning on an extended stay of several months may be asked to provide proof or evidence of financial solvency upon entry to Bahamian immigration authorities. Travelers arriving via private watercraft are charged docking fees.

KEEPING PASSPORT WHILE VISIT OUTSIDE THE LIMITS OF US , ALWAYS IS BENEFICIAL TO AVOID ANY FORTHCOMING PROBLEM NOT ENVISAGED.
