Do I need to bring really warm winter clothes for a December cruise? ?

I am going on a Caribbean cruise this December from Miami to Jamaica etc and don't know if I should expect warm weather and wear shorts during the day or will I need jeans and sweatshirts? Please only answer this question if you have been on a cruise like this in the Winter. THANK YOU!

This question really depends are where you live. For people who live in the southern US the temperatures will be about the same or slightly higher, but for those of us who live in the North where the December temperature is in the teens in the morning and may get up to 40 during the day, it will be very warm. In any event you will not need "warm" winter clothes as even on deck it will not be cold. Think Spring at worst.

I have cruised done 3 cruises in the winter months. I cruised from Port Canaveral AND Port Everglades in December and will cruise again from the latter on December 6th. While unpredictable weather may make it kinda cool at night as you leave Florida, and it may be breezy on deck as you leave, the weather will otherwise be very warm, if not hot, once you get further south.

Last December we cruised from Port Canaveral to the Western Caribbean and had port stops in Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Jamaica and Royal Caribbean's private island at Labidee, Haite and the weather was in the 80's every day. We went to to beach in Grand Cayman and on Labidee and the water was fine. Swimwear, short and "t"'s during the day will be fine. And most places on ship those will be fine during the day while the ship is moving. At night the temps may be in the 60's and breezy if you are up on an open deck.

My advice, pack the same as if you were cruising in the summer but take along a light jacket or sweater and you'll need sports/resort casual clothes for the evenings.

Here's how to pack:
The dress on ship is casual all day until 6:00PM, so take:
-swim wear (at least 2),
-shorts, tank tops and "T's"
-sandals,
-beach shoes,
-your snorkel equipment if you have it,
-sun glasses and sun screen,
-lotions,
-a cap or big hat for the sun,
-a book if you are a reader,
-your music player,
-sneakers and clothes to workout in if you like to use the gym,
-good walking shoes,
-your camera, extra batteries and charger, and
-other personal toiletries including tooth paste, mouth wash or lotions.

Your cabin will have towels and soap provided, including pool and beach towels, and a hair dryer. It will also have a generic hair shampoo so you do not need to bring that unless you like a specific brand.

After 6:00 PM they request that you wear "sports or resort casual" attire. That's attire that you would expect a person to wear in a business office, (like a bank employee), shirt with a collar, slacks, skirt, blouse, etc. You can still wear shorts and swim wear in the pools and spas but not in public areas like dining rooms and restaurants, show rooms, bars, casino, etc. Don't over pack , take clothes that you can mix and match tops and bottoms and plan to wear each piece twice. You will likely be in shorts and/or swim wear most of every day so evening clothes don't usually get much wear.

There is an occasional cold day in south Florida. It also tends to be a lot windier in the wintertime.

We usually stay in South Florida a couple of days pre- and/or post-cruise. We always go in the ocean and sun on the beach. Plenty warm for that although you'll appreciate a light jacket after the sun goes down.

Once you're on the ship, it only gets warmer.

Save the packing space. Wear the jeans and sweatshirt on the way down. Bet you won't need them after you get off the plane (or get much south of Fort Pierce if you drive) If you plan to spend any time on the Miami beaches, check out the wind screens at Wings...

it varies by what island you are going to . if your cruise is taken you to like the bahamas or st lucia or st Marten or something i would suggest take you can pack something light . like perhaps Capri's and a regular blouse . i have been on a cruise to the Caribbean three times once in july , feb and nov each time i went i didn't find the weather to eb cold at all. i also live in fl so i think i would recognize cold weather . well have a nice cruise.

You wont need winter clothing. Just a jacket. In the daytime it will mostly be in the 80s. At night the wind on the ocean can pick up a little though.

Chris J
Just take one or two pieces of clothing just in case, you won't really need them.

Enjoy!

Take a mixture, and layers. It is always cooler when out at sea, especially on the no sun side of the ship where the wind can give an increased chill factor.

Never COLD though in the normal sense in the Caribbean!

COLD is when the ice forms on the deck/handrails etc as during our trips to Antarctica and Spitzbergan!

I take warmer clothing on every cruise. You'll probably want shorts and stuff for the daytime, but in the evening you'll want warmer clothing. On the last Dec cruise that I went on, I wore my sweatshirt every evening, and often times during the day too. Out on the water can get chilly, and the air conditioning in public places can get chilly.

By warmer clothing, I mean at least one pair of long pants and one zip up sweatshirt/sweater/jacket that you can throw over anything. Not hat and gloves weather.

it should be warm, around 70-80 degrees. but it does depend where u are exactly going. just bring a sweater or sweatshirt because it can get chilly at night. maybe one pair of jeans, but that is all u need. the rest shorts and t-shirts!!

Time travler
The caribbean is always warm and never gets cold. I went at Christmas time to both the Caribbean, and to the Panama canal and never needed even a sweater. I also just came back from Hawaii 2 days ago from a cruise and did not need a sweater their either. So bring mostly shorts and warm weather clothes on your caribbean cruise.

You never know the temp. Even if it was warm it may be cold on the cruise. They have cold air condtioning so bring along a small sweater. You never know if it will be cold or hot. So bring clothes that are warm and good for warm wether because when you get there it will be warm
