Do cheap cruises to Europe from the US exist? |
I'm talking just a simple ship cruise, not one of those fancy $10,000 a ticket casino vacation cruise ships. Because I am terrified of airplanes, and a boat is obviously the only other means of traveling to europe, but I dont want to pay for two vacations.
So is it possible for me to do that? Or will I have to somehow grow fins and just swim there? (because a plane is NOT an option, if I get on one again, I will probably have a panic attack and start screaming and make the news because I caused the plane to have to make an emergency landing to let me out) |

Contact a travel agent. If there is something like that, they would know. |

Check out the various cruise lines. I know Royal Caribbean has some transcontinental cruises but they include sites. It isn't just a leave-from-miami-drop-you-off-in-england type thing.
If that surfaces nothing, contact a travel agent and see what they have to offer. |

Transatlantic cruises sell out quickly, and even the cheapest cabin category could run you a couple of thousand dollars. oh, and they are one way, so you would also have to find another crossing in the other direction and pay again. and they don't run all that often, either. |

ha probably not.... there might be some good deals for the med.. but call a travel agent. oh go on a plane you baby! :D they're not that bad.... although basking in the sun while on the way to an amazing part of the world does sound better than being locked in a cabin sort thing like sardines.................damn.... ohwell next time haha |

Here is some info I found with a simple Expedia.com search. Just go to expedia.com, select cruises; in the destination area, select 'transatlantic'; for the date, enter desired date. I used all dates as you didn't specify any. I also don't know what you consider 'cheap', so you'll have to be the one to decide what falls into your budget. Here you are:
12-02-06 Norwegian (Norwegian Pearl) 10 days Miami to UK starts at $830
04-16-07 Royal Caribbean (Brilliance of the Seas) Ports of call: Miami, Florida; Cork, Ireland; Falmouth, United Kingdom; Le Havre, France; Harwich, United Kingdom no price listed
11-14-06 RC (Voyager of the Seas) 11 nights Barcelona, Spain; Lisbon, Portugal; Funchal, Portugal; Miami, Florida starts at $600
Many seem to be around $800-$1200. But you have to remember that these are one-way and most of these trips are repositioning trips. This means they don't make the run and then turn around and come back. They usually head to Europe for the season and then return to the US for it's high season.
Queen Mary 2 is an exception to the rule. They offer direct travel from NY to Southampton UK starting at around $1300. The travel goes eastbound and westbound, but the price is one-way. You may be able to contact them for a better rate RT. The trips take 6-7 days each way, so you'll have to remember to allow for that in planning your vacation.
Good luck to you. : ) |

There is a dilemna here. You're afraid of planes which would mean that you would have to naturally cruise exclusively and you want to do it inexpensively(I am Owner of a Travel Agency). That's not the dilemna; the dilemna is because on the vast majority of Eurpean cruises, the port you'd leave from would more than likely be somewhere in Europe which for most folks would mean flying to the European city where they'd leave from.
But because airplanes are not an option with you, then it sounds like the cruise you'd probably want to take would leave from a US port and arrive at a US port. The problem this could cause is that the cruises are longer and more costly. You mentioned you wanted a "cheap" cruise to Europe. Factoring in where you would leave from, the length of the cruise, and the cost involved, some questions come to mind:
1-Keeping in mind that you do not want to fly, are you willing to take a longer cruise leaving and arriving at a US port and possibly paying more?
2-How long a cruise did you have in mind?
3-Do you have a Travel budget in place?
Minor considerations for sure but important as it will factor into your decision on whether you want to cruise from a US port for an European cruise or not. Also understand that there are inexpensive cruises to Europe but again, the cruises for the most part originate from ports on the European continent. Cruises from US ports are available but will cost more. If you could kindly either call, email me at: indysteve1563@yahoo.com, or reach me through Yahoo Messenger with what you have in mind, we can try to help clarify what your travel intentions are and also see what options are available to you given your unique situation. |
