Do cruise ships show recent (or current) movies in their theatres?

You are probably talking about Movies Under the Stars (MUTS). I was on the Crown Princess a couple of months ago and to tell you the truth it was a mixture of recent and older movies. When I say recent I don't mean movies that are currently in theatres I mean movies that were just released on DVD. If you are someone that goes to the theater a lot you probably will have seen most of what they will show. In any case MUTS is a pretty fun experience. They pass out blankets and popcorn. Please not that on the upper tiers of the pool area when you recline the loungers the rail may block your vision so make sure you get there early to choose your seat wisely.

You are probably going on a Princess cruise ship, some of which have what they call "movies under the stars" ( http://www.princess.com/news/article.jsp?newsArticleId=na804&submit=pk ).

I have been on many cruises and they generally have many of the first run movies available for free viewing on ships, both in the cabin and on some ships there is a small movie theater that may hold about 50 to100 people. Then some ships will show a movie in the main show room on occasion. For example, on our last cruise the ship showed Oceans 12 on one of nights when they did not have a show. On our last cruise I also looked at The Bee Movie, which was on in the cabin. And there were about a dozen other first run movies available

So the short answer to your question is you will likely have the opportunity to view recently released movies that have made it to DVD sales. Your cabin may have among the information in it a listing of the movies available during your cruise and their times.

They are not totally current, but they are recent movies. They are perhaps a month or 2 old.

THERE ARE TWO DIFFERENT PLACES TO WATCH MOVIES ONE IS IN YOUR CABIN WHERE THE MOVIES ARE NOT THAT OLD BUT NOT THAT NEW MAYBE YOU HAVE SEEN THEM ON PPV AND THE MOVIE THEATER. WHAT YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT IS THAT THE LINE PRINCESS SHOWS MOVIES UNDER THE STARS. BUT YOU ARE GOING TO ALASKA I DONT THINK THEY WILL SHOW A MOVIE OUTSIDE. EITHER WAY WHY PAY SO MUCH TO GO ON A CRUISE TO WATCH A MOVIE WHEN THERE WILL BE SO MANY OTHER THINGS TO DO
