Do guys have to wear a suit or a tuxedo to the formal dinners on a carnival cruise.?

Or can they just wear dress pants with a shirt and tie?

No swin war alowed in the dinning room

Is there a dress code for the dining room?

Depending on the length of the cruise, either formal dress or casual resort wear is required in the Dining Room. The dress requirement for children is the same. For those not wanting to dress up, the Lido restaurants are open nightly (with the exception of the last evening of the cruise), and have a casual dress code. Formal Wear: tuxedo (optional); suit and tie; sport coat, tie and slacks; evening gown; cocktail dress; pantsuit Casual Resort Wear: sport shirts and slacks; dresses; skirts; pantsuit NOTE: Shorts, t-shirts and bathing attire are not permitted in the Dining Room during dinner.

I wouldn't want to wear a suit on vacation. I'd rather wear dress pants and a jacket.

You need to wear a sport jacket & tie at the very least. Formal night is just that...formal. If you don't feel like dressing up, just have dinner at the buffet, or even order room service. Most of the times, room service serves what will be served in the main dining room anyway.

Believe me, everyone on a cruise ship, carnival especially, has their own interpetation of formal night. A tuxedo is definitely not necessary, but I would suggest slacks and a coat. A tie would be good, but not a total necessity.

went on carnival celebration in july. my nephew wore a polo shirt and khaki pants for formal night. i didn't think it was appropriate but no one said anything to him and they did not offer him a sport coat to wear. he wasn't the only one that was dressed like that. just use your own judgement. if you don't like feeling under dressed then wear a coat and tie. a tux is not nessesary. you can always rent one on board if you really want to wear a tux though.

if I paid then I wear what I want and this is a guys opinion

johnrklinger
Only a few will actually be wearing a tux. Most people will be in a reg suit or sports jacket. Some will be in dress pants with a shirt or tie. That is probably a bit underdressed for formal night but you can be assured that you would not be the only one. In my opinion, it's not worth the money to rent the tux for formal night unless you really feel like going all out.

on formal night a jacket is required. Just went last month on Carnivals ship Paradise. No big deal you can actually rent one if you want.
