Do my children need passports when we go on a Disney Cruise in November since we stop in the Bahamas?

Or do they just need birth certificates?

Show all answers

Due September 17th with baby #1
The passport requirement for cruises has been pushed back to June 2009. If you are sailing November 2008 then your children need a copy of their birth certificate to travel. You can find out all the requiremnts and get further information by visiting the official site for passport laws at http://www.travel.gov.

Note: Passports are not yet required but are strongly recommended. If there were an emergency and you had to fly back home from another country then you would be delayed if you do not already carry a passport. It is up to you weather or not you take on on this trip or not.

The person who said that children can be on your passport is not accurate. When you do apply for a passport, your children MUST have their own.

Below is the copy of the information page from Disney.com website.

Also FYI Kids can't be on your passport, they need there own (when required)

We just traveled on the Wonder...we used passports because we felt it was just less hassle.

Travel Documentation Information

The following information is provided to help clarify which citizenship documents you may require when traveling with Disney Cruise Line®. Required travel documents vary depending on your national citizenship status and the itinerary of your Disney cruise vacation.

United States Citizens

Caribbean, Bahamian and Mexican Riviera Cruises
In order to board the ship, all Guests are required to provide proper travel documentation. Guests unable to provide proof of citizenship will not be permitted to sail. All Guests claiming U.S. citizenship, including children, must present one of the following as proof of U.S. citizenship:

A valid, unexpired U.S. passport.
Original state issued Birth Certificate; additionally, Guests 18 years of age and older must present a photo ID issued by a Local, State or Federal Government agency.
Original Certificate of Naturalization; additionally, Guests 18 years of age and older must present a photo ID issued by a Local, State or Federal Government agency.
Original Certificate of Citizenship; additionally, Guests 18 years of age and older must present a photo ID issued by a Local, State or Federal Government agency.
Original Consular Report of Birth Abroad of U.S. Citizen; additionally, Guests 18 years of age and older must present a photo ID issued by a Local, State or Federal Government agency.
Copies of any of the above documents are not acceptable.

We are unable to make any exceptions or accept any other forms of documentation for U.S. citizenship. If you do not present the proper documentation, you will not be permitted to board the ship. In addition, on the day of your sailing, all Guests must board the ship no later than 4:00 p.m. Please plan your arrival accordingly to avoid the possibility of not being permitted to sail with us.

International Adoptions
If any member of your family has derived United States citizenship through adoption from abroad, please provide one of the following:

Valid, unexpired, U.S. passport
Valid, unexpired, permanent resident card, also known as the "Green Card" or "Alien Resident Card (ARC)".
Copies of any of the above documents are not acceptable.

While passports are not always required, we encourage Guests to bring them. There are many advantages to having your passport with you. A passport offers the flexibility to travel wherever you would like on short notice and can simplify international travel as it is the only document you generally have to produce at customs. For example, in the event of an emergency during your cruise you may need to return home via a foreign port. In such a situation, you would already have the appropriate required identification.

Passports are required to reenter the United States from the Caribbean or Bahamas via air as of January 23, 2007.

Canadian Citizens

Caribbean, Bahamian and Mexican Riviera Cruises
All Guests claiming Canadian citizenship must present one of the following as proof of Canadian citizenship for each member of the party:

Valid, unexpired, Canadian passport
Original state issued Birth Certificate; additionally, Guests 18 years of age and older must present a photo ID issued by a Local, State or Federal Government agency.
If you live and work in the United States and are a legal permanent resident, you must provide a valid, unexpired, Permanent Resident Card, also known as the "Green Card" or "Alien Resident Card (ARC)."

Non-United States Citizens

Caribbean, Bahamian and Mexican Riviera Cruises
All Guests claiming non-United States citizenship, including children, must provide one of the following:

A valid, unexpired passport and green I-94 form, also known as the Visa Waiver Arrival-Departure Form
A valid, unexpired passport, multiple entry-visa and white I-94 form, also known as the Arrival-Departure Record
Any Guest with less than a multiple-entry visa will be denied boarding at time of check-in.
Valid, unexpired, refugee travel document
If you live and work in the United States and are a legal permanent resident, you must provide a valid, unexpired, Permanent Resident Card, also known as the "Green Card" or "Alien Resident Card (ARC)."
Copies of any of the above documents are not acceptable.

In addition, all non-United States citizens should be aware of the following:

At check-in, Disney Cruise Line® will collect all citizenship documentation for non-United States citizens. This will assist with expediting clearance through United States Customs and Border Protection.
Guests will receive a citizenship document receipt.
Travel documents are stored securely onboard the ship at Guest Services on Deck 3 Midship.
Upon return to the final United States port, all non-United States citizens (including children) must present themselves to United States Customs and Border Protection for inspection prior to disembarking the ship. The time and location for the inspection will be communicated once Guests are onboard the ship.
