Do non gay cruises offer any gay activities?

Do non gay cruises offer any gay activities? I will be going on the Ruby Princess (Princess Cruise Line) and it will not be a gay cruise. The cruise will have mostly straight people. I would love to know if non gay cruises have activities or meetings for gays. I was told that some cruises that are non gay cruises have meetings for gays to meet but not sure if that is true or not. Would love to know more.

Princess do have Friends of Dorothy and Friends of Bill meetings, but nothing else specifically for the gay community.

gay activities? uh, there's no such thing. dancing, swimming, anything you can think of on a cruise is for anyone.

and meetings for gays? you go on cruises for fun, not for intervention.

I don't understand why there would need to be or why you would want separate activities because of your sexual orientation or preferences. What has your sex life got to do with cruise activities? I thought NON discrimination was the goal...not discrimination.

TT
Most of them are designed for 'main-stream' as you know and they don't like to advertise anything that may offend our fragile friends. Your best bet is to ask a crew-member on board, there are plenty of gay crew and they'll steer you in the right direction. You might be better off looking at your ports of call and then seeing if there are LGBT friendly activities there.

Maybe check out cruise critic as well, that may have something. Hope that helps a little? I'm not gay but work in travel (airline) so 99% of my friends are.

one would have to wonder exactly what kind of activities you would be looking for
one would think that a cruise ship would have activities for their guests whether they are gay or not, huh
Excuse me, but I think this is one sick question!

If you've got gay cruises. Why then would a "non-gay" cruise have gay activities? Are there non-gay activities on gay cruises?

Kevin L
Generally, the answer is no.

Some ships do a "Friends of Dorothy" meetings. But, they are kind of on your own. They are not facilitated or led, by any staff member. Some times they will give people a time and a place to meet for that. Other times, they will have a community bulletin board type thing, for people to arrange that on their on.

As far as other activities, apart from meetings, I've never seen anything on a regular sailing.

When I was working on a cruise ship, we did do one "Alternative Lifestyle" cruise. Where half of it was a gay charter. On that cruise, they did have activities (mostly set up by that group) for the gays, that the other passengers could not attend, nor invited to. That's really the only time I have seen activities set up for gay passengers.

Some of the activities they had on that cruise were:

A gay comedian

Grease movie/Sing-A-long (I was working that night, and went to this, and although I am not gay, it was kind of fun. A theater full of people singing during the movie Grease)

I think they had a special bingo session

One night the pool deck was closed to all passengers except this group, and they had a pool buffet, and other pool deck activities.

You should check with that cruise line. I always sail Carnival, and they usually have "Friends of Dorothy" meetings scheduled, like little meet-and-greets. I think Princess is owned by Carnival, but that doesn't mean they offer the same activities.

Gay cruises tend to be too gay with disco drag queen dances, funny looking skimpy speedos around the pool, but with regular shore excursions with wide eyed tourists watching them get off the tender boats. Straight cruises are exactly the same without the gay action. Both types of cruises tend to have a majority of couples so single people are in the minority if that is what you are looking for. Gay cruises tend to have a dance party every day or late night if you are into dancing. These usually have massive sound systems brought onto the ship. Straight cruises do not have many of these dance parties.

Chrys
ask the cruise line...they aren't all alike

Hopefully not. I wouldnt want my kids anywhere near that horrid behavior.
