Yes. The QE2, which was built in 1969 and will retire this year is an ocean liner and has made several transatlantic trips. Replacing the QE2 is the QM2 which is also an ocean liner. During the summer the QM2 makes several one way transatlantic trips.
Several cruise ships also do a transatlantic run twice per year. From the US to Europe in the spring and from Europe to the US in the fall.
For people who are afraid to fly, this is one way to go between the two continents. However, unlike the 1950s and earlier (the 707 started flying in 1959) the QM2 does not make transatlantic crossings during the winter. |

I actually expect a reanaissance for huge ocean liners in the 21st century.
Soon, oil will become just too expensive to use flying aeroplanes accross the globe. Same will happen with private cars.
Future is for trains, new kinds of boats/ocean liners, maybe new types of fast blimps, and generally different types of mass transit schemes (but not for flying like we see it today). |

Looking up some information on ocean liners they are almost obsolete. "Now the last true ocean liners are in their twilight years and before long there may be none left." I would just take a cruise ship though. lol. |

When you can fly for as little as $99 each way, why sail?
The only options for sailing are the big cruise ships anyway. Unless you know someone with a merchant freighter. |
|

Time travler
 |
The only way that I know of is to take a cruise, But I have heard that you can somehow get a room on like a freight, but I don't think so anymore. That would take too long and be pretty boring. |

Five local friends founded Nautical Cruise Lines in 1987. They were all very young, ambitious, licensed Captains with a great love for boats and the sea. They built their first yacht themselves, with each partner contributing their own unique trade. To this day, it is “all hands on deck” as the owners take part in all aspects of the business. The web site is http://www.nauticalcruiselines.com the partners work 6-7 days a week to make sure everything is carried out in an exceptional fashion. Both friends and partners alike, they have found a perfect chemistry to create an ideal atmosphere of five star cuisine and impeccable service whether it be a wedding on Long Island, a birthday party, sweet 16 or any other affair it will be a most memorable event. Each year they elect to invest most of their proceeds back into their yachts, truly keeping them in “ship shape.” You can check out their blog at www.nauticalcruiselines.blogspot.com and also their wordpress account at www.nauticalcruiselines.wordpress.com and yes they are on myspace at www.myspace.com/nauticalcruise Let our hard, dedicated work benefit you as you enjoy the ambiance, cuisine and breathtaking views only available at Nautical Cruise Lines. |
