Do you have to be able to swim to get a job on a cruise ship? I can swim a little but not overly confident!?

No, But it would help. All ships have lifeboats and everything. Unless your a lifeguard or anything dealing with that you won't need to swim. But you are in the ocean so it would help!

No, it's not required.

But you know, back in the day, explorers used to look for crew who COULDN'T swim. Harder to mutiny if you can't make a break for shore. =)

Johan from Sweden
Well I guess its a great chance to learn. But remember that even thou you dont have to swim aboard cruise ships most crews are part of the security and emergency detail on cruise ships. And since theyre goes on water swiming capabilites might be asked for. Or at least it will give you better job oportunities. Crews will also be required to do mandatory security drills that passengers dont participy in. But the best way to find out is to call the ones that hires crews and ask. Johan

no but u sure tell them that you aren't the best swimmer and if they can not to give u anything that u will be in the water or almost in the water and if they willn't take u then be like i take swimming lessons just so i can swim much better there eat in up

jalady
They have life jackets and I am sure they will train you in case of a emergency.

I am sure you don't need to know how to swim.
