Do you have to use a credit card for your on-board account? |
I read you can pay cash up front and pay the difference at the end of the cruise, i am just wondering if anyone has done this or if you know if it can be done.
Also, do you know how much you would have to pay up front and do they accept debit cards?
ps-we'd probably be sailing on carnival or roal carribbean. |

Hi, I just got back from a Royal Caribbean cruise and did this very thing.
When you are in port, they scan the credit card you bought the cruise with, she said that is the same card you would use for your on-board purchases, I said Ok. Sure. I asked how to pay with cash, just in case. She said to go to the guest relations desk on the boat and you can do this up until the last night of the cruise.
On the last night I went there, and she printed out my "tab" and I handed her the cash and my account was settled, it took less than 2 minutes and gave me peace of mind knowing that I knew my credit card wasnt going to be charged for anything else, at all!
I don't know anything about pre-payment towards the account... BUt as far as debit cards go, if it has a visa logo, they will take it, they don't have the capabilities of running it as debt and you entering your pin, there is, however, an ATM on the boat... It said "Atlantic Bank" or something like that on it, I thought it was cute...
If I go again, I would def do it.
HAVE FUN! |

I think you can put whatever you want for cash. the downside is that you have to settle up on the last day, which means waiting in line to get to the counter to pay the difference or get refund. credit or debit should be fine, just make sure you keep track of your onboard spending, so you don;t get hit with overdraft/huge bill at the end of the cruise.
Happy cruising |

Yes, you can pay cash. Once you arrive at the ship you will set up an on board account, where they will issue you a card like a credit card which is used for your room key, on board purchases and ID for leaving the ship at ports of call. As for the account most lines charge you $10.00 aday per person for tips then add $ for you buying drinks, souvenirs on the ship. Each in you cabin on the TV you can review your account or go the front desk and ask for a copy and any mistakes you can correct there.
I have been on over 20 cruises and always use cash and never paid anything extra. The night before your cruise ends go back to the front desk and they will give you your final account and refund any cash you have coming. |

You generally provide your credit card account number prior to sailing. This is entered into your SeaPass or Sail and Sign account, which is your on board card, also serving as your room key. You get the tab on the final night. If you have no credit card, they permit you to post $300.00 cash to your account. If you exceed this, you pay the difference on the final evening. |
