Dpmaf is right, what you need is experience as a waiter, receptionist, shop atendant, hairdresser etc...
But some companies do not hire people without ship experience, usually the more expensive ones like Crystal, Silverseas, Cunnard (asks for 5 years onboard experience).
Concessions are a good way to get in

they run shops and spas on some 50 ships.
phone interviews and a fairly easy life onboard, compared to crewmembers (as a shop or spa attendant you are not CREW, but staff)
if you dont have retail experience, make some up, they dont check.
the job is really easy, i mean selling stuff...
some computer experience, thats all and you usually dont work while on port cause the shops are duty free.

I think its advisable to have experience in the position you are looking for, but not necessary ship experience. |

Everybody has to start out somewhere. All cruise lines have entry level positions that do not require experience. |
