what's with all the thumbs down? you need your passport anytime you leave the U.S. for example, say you dock in the virgin islands, you may not need it because the virgin islands are U.S owned. but say you stop in st maarten, they will ask for for your passport as soon as try to come back on the ship. so in a nutshell, yes you need a passport. and most cruise lines have laws that don't allow people under (i think it's 25?) to go on a cruise without an adult. so basically, your 'rents are coming dude. the reason they have this rule is because carnival allowed a senior cruise a few years back and they completely trashed the place so they threw that rule out the window.

hope i helped. have fun.

Many cruise lines require someone at least 21 and sometimes 25 to occupy the same cabin as someone under 18.

On June 1, 2009 all cruise passengers will be required to possess a passport unless on a closed loop cruise (see below). Prior to that date if you are only traveling to and from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda you only need documentation as indicated in the closed loop rules below. Travel to all other countries requires a passport.

U.S. citizens on closed-loop cruises (cruises that begin and end at the same port in the U.S.) will be able to enter or depart the country with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate and government-issued photo ID. A U.S. citizen under the age of 16 will be able to present either an original or a copy of his or her birth certificate, a Consular Report of Birth Abroad issued by DOS, or a Certificate of Naturalization issued by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Please be aware that you may still be required to present a passport when you dock at a foreign port, depending on the islands or countries that your cruise ship is visiting. Check with your cruiseline to ensure you have the appropriate documents for the stops you’ll be making on your cruise.

Even though a passport is not required I would highly recommend one. If you get stuck in a foreign country without one you can't fly home. The passport cards that are being issued as an alternative to the passport book will not allow you to fly.

i'm going on a cruise this summer. And i found out that i need a passport if i am leaving my country by any means( land, sea, and air).

About your age, I am 18 and at carnival( the cruise i am going on) i am not allowed to go alone. If your under 21 you need someone over 25 to be your chaperone. but every cruise is different. Maybe if your are emancipated you can go alone. but i highly doubt you can go alone.

But you should check with your cruise line.

O.K. so you need a Passport.
Also - anyone leaving the ship for shore excursions in other Countries should check if they also need a Visa. This requirement is sometimes waived if you are entering the Country (say Russia) as part of an accompanied guided tour; should you want to pick up a taxi from the ship and do you own thing, you will need to apply for Visas well in advance of your trip.
Also note that some of the Virgin Islands are British.
You would not be able to travel alone at 16.

yeah u do need it

Cassie
You don't have to yet we are going on one in may and we still do not need one but you do need two forms of ID. I believe that they have postponed it again for another year. We went ahead and got ours just to have it. You can not go on a cruise by alone. You have to be 25 I believe to go by yourself unless accompanied by an adult or if you are married.

tess
They won't let you on the ship if you don't have a passport.(doesn't everyone have one?)
Minimum age for travelling alone is usually 18.

yes u do in this day an age can't go no where without 1.

If you're going out of the country, you need a passport. If you're cruising inside the country, you don't. And you need to be 18 in order to cruise alone

arlanymor
Not if you are cruising in a car in your home country you dont.I would think that you need to be 18 to go alone on a ship

Depends which cruise line you are going with but in this day and age very few would let you on without a supervising adult. The passport is all depending on whether the cruise will stop at ports of countries other than the country that the ship leaves from.

luddite
Of course you do, you are leaving the country. You do want to come back, don't you? Or get off the ship and have a look wherever it docks?

! want u
ya u have to have passport coz ur under age and if ur over age u want need to take it with u...
