Do you watch TV when you are on a cruise?

When we went on our last cruise they told me I would never be in my room, they were wrong. I liked coming back to my room to rest and relax and would have liked a better selection on the TV set. Most of the major networks/channels were on the TV and I missed many of my favorite shows. I know I should be running around the ship and eating at all times but that is impossible. Can't they have better TV reception on the ship?

I do watch TV sometimes, the ship runs movies every day and I would usually end up watching a movie, or part of one. I would just change around the channels and see if there was something on. You have to remember the ship is getting their reception through satellite, so it can't always be as good as home.

TV reception on a cruise ship is a bit difficult. It has to be a satellite system, since the ship is usually out of range of any broadcast tower. However, unlike a land based satellite system, the ship cannot just aim its dish at the satellite, because the ship moves. That means the ship's satellite dish must constantly be re-aimed. Thus, you are never going to get reception like you do on land.

Also, the ships buy the feed from one source. So you are limited to the programing offered by that source. This is never going to be a high priority since for most people, TV watching is not a high priority while on a cruise.

When I've been on cruises, I tend to spend the majority of the first day relaxing in my cabin and getting used to the movement of the ship. In this time, I generally switch on a film and mix that with BBC World or CNN to keep in touch with the real world.
After that, I just watch a little TV at the end of the day. For me, the point of going on a cruise is to see places. If I want to watch TV, it would be cheaper and more convenient to sit at home with a large screen and choose from the 400+ channels available!

I would watch T.V but only when I was going to bed or in my room. Most of the time I was having fun on the ship or outside on the top decks. Who wants to be in their room when there is better things to do?

i've never been on a cruise but i watch tv everyday. therefore i know i would do the same. i mean all a cruise is for is to get away and do stuff you like. especially at night when you're winding down i could see tv being a must have on a cruise.
