Does anyone have any experience with phone solicited "free" cruises? |
For the last couple of weeks I have been receiving daily phone calls from a cruise line (international I think), offering me and my boyfriend a "free cruise" to the Bahamas. All we have to do is pay the Port Tax(?) of $59 per person. Then once the 3 day cruise is over, we get 3 days at a 5 star hotel in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. I am leary of this "too good to be true offer" but my boyfriend thinks it is a good idea. They are calling back tonight after we have researched it a little bit. I don't want to go. |

It's a typical and well - known scam. Don't fall for it, no matter how nice the person sounds on the other end of the phone. |

i would be leery of this "too good to be true " offer also. Theres one line which goes out of fort lauderdale on 3 day bahamas cruise.
but the ship is out of the 1950's and they want to sell you all sorts of stuff onboard when you get there.
good luck to you.

It sounds like that Ramada scam I got in the mail about a year ago. The offer is misleading, to say the least.

Oh my gosh I have read nightmare stories about that group! Run! runnnn.... Try and block the call do not under any circumstances get sucked into that. You would not believe the stories I heard. Do a web search with the company name you will get tons of stuff. It ended up costing people ton's of money and it is a crap cruise. Now if your looking for a low cost cruise check out NCL they have a ship called the Sky that we sailed on in Sept. It is really nice you will get the feel of what a longer cruise will be like and it will be cheaper then staying home... believe me! You will get your room, travel, food for very very little money per day. This even includes a lobster dinner! Yippee. The Sky is an older ship but she is really nice, of course there are plenty of other ships out there and the prices right now are dirt cheep. If you go with a legit cruise you will have all your fees up front, then once on the ship you will only HAVE TO, come up with the tips per day and you will not believe the service you get for next to nothing. So consider a legit cruise it will be the best time you ever had and don't pick up phone calls from numbers you don't recognize and put yourself on the do not disturb list! |

There is no such thing as a free cruise. One time I was told over the phone that I'd won a free holiday. Catch was that I had to drive 120 miles to collect my 'free' ticket. I told them just to put it in the mail, but they said they couldn't do that. Turned out it was just another time-share scam.
I can guarantee you this is just a frequently used marketing scam. Telemarketers know that wishful thinkers are susceptible to their offers. Also know that your personal information, should you enter it, may be collected by unscrupulous operators via the Internet when you are visiting bogus travel-related sites seeking unbelievable deals on trips or airfare.
You get a notice that you have won a super travel bargain. All you have to do is make a deposit with your credit card and select your preferred travel dates. The trouble is you may never actually get your "bargain" trip because the travel proves to be a complete fabrication, your reservations may not be confirmed or because you must comply with so many hard-to-meet, hidden or expensive "conditions."
Do not take the bait !

i think you may have to play a little more then just the port tax... nothing is free in this country and it is too good to be true. look to spend at least $500 |

Don't go, what you end up going to is an seminar and they will pressure you to buy their products.
While its not required you to buy anything, but in order to get the "free code" which they will give you at the end of the seminar. You have to call a company (which is extremely hard to get a hold of) , and hopefully with finger crossed you will get the tickets. |
