Heck with your feet. you can fall and break a leg. They aren't all that safe either. Now for the good news, most all cruise ships are very, very safe. The only ones that have sunk in recent time(like the last 50 years) are a few of the very small ones owned by independent companies. In fact, one of the first things you do when you go on a cruise is called the muster station. It is a safety drill that all are required to do. I feel very safe on a cruise ship, but then I'm a good swimmer too, just kidding. Enjoy your cruise.

Thomson has 5 ships and as far as I am aware none of their ships have ever sunk. I have sailed on all of the Thomson ships and enjoyed the experience and I am sure you will too.

Thomson Spirit was built as the Holland America cruise ship Nieuw Amsterdam in 1984 by Chantiers de l'Atlantique in St Nazaire for Holland America Line, part of Carnival Cruises since 1989. Her sistership Noordam was introduced the same year. She was sold in 2000 to American Classic Voyages as the Patriot to start a new cruise line using the historic name of United States Lines. United States Lines folded in 2001 following the September 11th terrorist attacks. Patriot was chartered by Thomson Cruises from 2003 as the Thomson Spirit.

Thomson Celebration was built in 1984 as Holland America Line's Noordam and has been chartered to Thomson since 2004.

Thomson Destiny is the ex-Sunbird of My Travel, taken over by Thomson for the 2005 season. Thomson Destiny was built in 1982 as the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Song of America. The 'Sky Lounge' around the funnel was not removed when sold in 1999. Thomson Destiny is, managed and later owned, by Louis Cruise Lines.

The Calypso was originally built in 1967 as the Italian ferry Canguro Verde and was completely rebuilt in 1994 as the cruise ship Regent Jewel. Shortly after, the ship was chartered to Germany's Transocean Tours -- which allowed the ship, renamed The Calypso, to continue operating even after Regency Cruises' 1995 bankruptcy. In 2000, following the end of the Transocean charter, the ship was sold to Louis Cruise Lines. It was chartered to Thomson beginning in 2007.

The Emerald began its life in 1958 as the ocean liner Santa Rosa for Grace Line's service from New York to South America. After nearly 20 years laid up in the US, the ship was massively rebuilt in Greece and re-entered service in 1993 as the Regent Rainbow. The ship was sold to Louis Cruise Lines in 1996 following the bankruptcy of Regency Cruises and since 1997 it has been chartered to Thomson.
