During cruise, is it better to have a cabin on deck or under deck?

I would recommend on deck.

Less stairs to climb
Less waiting for elevators
Easy to run back to your room for something

I say under the deck

So that your TV wouldn't roll to the water. You know.

It actually depends on whether or not you are prone to sea sickness! If so you want to be toward the bottom of the passenger decks located center ship. Those cabins tend to be more stable as the center of gravity is lower. If you do not get seasick, upper decks outside cabins and balconies offer terrific views and are well worth the money.

Its best to have a cabin with a balcony and up high on the ship. Royal Carribean was great for a cruise and the cabins were nice.

If money is not a factor then a room with a balcony. If you wish to save between &300.00 to $500.00 each then an inside cabin. Plus, you are not in your room that much ( so they can clean, your in port, action on decks outside etc ) but, to sleep. Your choice. 1 more thing to consider a cabin with a balcony only offers a view of one side, wouldn't you rather be out where you can see everything ?

really depends on you and what you prefer. and what you can afford . do you want to see the ocean from cabin on deck .

The views are better than if you have one "under deck" with no window.

A lot of on deck or under deck depends on the layout of the ship. Personally I really don't care as long as my cabin has a balcony. Some of the cabins on deck only have a window. If this is the case the window might also have an obstructed view because of the construction of the ship or because the view is blocked by a life boat.

I agree with what Jade stated, but remember that the higher you go on a ship the more expensive the cabin. The same for cabins that are more mid-ship. It used to be that people preferred cabins as close to mid-ship as possible because there was less motion if there was rough sea. However, all the current cruise ships have stabilizers and pods that do a great job of giving you the smoothest sail possible, so now it doesn't matter where your cabin is because you'll have the same experience throughout the ship. But the myth holds on and cruise lines take advantage of this and price their mid-ship cabins higher than those that are fore and aft. Look on a ship's deck plan and see where the pricing changes. One cabin might be $300 more because it is classified mid-ship and the one next to it isn't and is $300 less. Do you think there's going to be a difference in the motion between these two cabins?

If its in your budget, get a cabin with a balcony. If not then get a cabin with the largest window possible. I would tell you to stay away from inside cabins. A lot of people who have never cruised will take an inside cabin because it is the lowest priced. Their reasoning is that they will not spend a lot of time there anyway. You wouldn't either if all you had was a dark hole in the middle of the ship. If you have an inside cabin there is not window and no natural light, so no matter what time of day or night you go to your cabin it will always be pitch black inside. I like the idea of waking up and knowing it is morning and seeing what the weather is like outside. You'll have to go on deck to see what the weather is like. If you wake up you will not know what time it is unless you bring your own clock (not provided by cruise lines) and then you'll have to turn on the light to see it. Make sure its a wind up or battery clock because there are no outlets in a cruise ship near the bed (usually only in the bathroom or near a vanity.)

Anyone who books an inside cabin, rarely books it again.
