With GPS and all the other safety measures on cruise liners today you have no fears concerning being found if your ship were to sink in the middle of the ocean. One of the first things they do on a cruise start is a life boat drill. The life boats are bigger than most small yachts today. They are sealed, carry more than 40 people, and you know where to go to get on yours should something happen.
Your biggest worry should be, according to reports from the last year or so, are food borne and person borne illnesses, but even then the number of occurances is much less than you would think.
Cruises constantly monitor the weather, so you go around hurricanes and such, although you might not make some of the ports you were interested in. They do try to make it up to you. Our cruise went very well, food was great and way too much, dinners were four and five courses, and there is great entertainment free each night. We sprung for a balcony room so we could see the ocean and islands, and it was well worth it. Spent hours reading and just gazing out to the horizon.
The only issue I had was the cost. They give you these personalized "credit cards" that get you into your room, buy you just about everything under the sun, etc., but you get your surprise the night before you dock when they shove the three or four pages of billing under your door, so if you plan on being frugal, get up and go get your own cokes, etc., or you will be charged for them, as well as these huge bottles of Dasani, etc., along with gold chains, duty free shops, and all the other promotions they run to sell stuff.
Bon voyage. Forget those worries.

I would just try to get past my fears. There are so many ways that you could get hurt, die, etc, just live like today is your last day and these fears won't bother you so much. You can get killed walking across a street. Balance the fun with the fear and you will be able to do more things without worrying about it. Cruises make for an awesome vacation, I love them and think that they are worth any risk that they might have.

if your really that worried. dont go in the winter time. youll freeze if it sinks. they didnt really have airplanes that would come rescue them either. but now they do...

On the titanic they didnt have enough life boats, It is now law that every ship must have more than enought life boats and jackets for the passengers. Also everyone gets a fair chance to escape. Life boats are now opperated by moater, not row boats. Hope I helped.

Now there are always enough lifeboats for everyone. PLUS this is NOT 1912 and we have new technology that can find the icebergs easier and we knoe where they are. Do NOT be worried!

poeple have learned for the titanic and have made sure that the boats are VERY safe and durable and that there are enought lifeboats for everybody. Also since technology has improved, there are more ways calling for help. so you should not worry at all!
btw the lifeboats shoot flares so other boats can see them and rescue them.

we now have iceberg patrol and safety regulations the weather is Pre-checked a gazillion times by the pros and u have full boat insurance with travel pack there is a 2/100 chance it will sink once u get on a cruise u will forget all about that and u will enjoy your self 2 the MAX!! Lessons were learned from Titanic now most ships carry enough life boats for every passenger on board. Plus communication is better and help would arrive faster. With all the sat elite technology we have today ships know how to steer around storms and each other so ocean travel is so much safer.

A: Our navigations systems these days are too advanced to hit an iceburg...or any other object for that matter.
B: They no longer make boats where the bolsters overflow into one another, so even if there was a leak, it would be contained in one small part of the ship (not nearly enough to even tip the boat)
C: They have serious warning SOS signals, so there would be tracking and help as soon as a ship was in trouble.
D: All boats now have plenty of life boats and you HAVE to do a drill before you even leave dry land.
E: There are stuffs of food and water on the boats, life vests, and safety equiptment so that you can signal other boats for help when you are in a life boat
F: Have you heard of a cruise ship in the last 50 years sinking?

If the Ship you were on was sinking, someone on the comms. would of notified the relivent people. Giving the location and such. So once your in lifeboats, someone would surely come get you?

The first thing you do once everyone is on the ship is called 'muster.' Staff will tell you where to find your own personal life jacket, and then show you where to go to line up for a life boat. They will not do anything else on the ship until everyone knows where they get the lifejacket, how to put it on, and where their own life boat is. This way, if there ever IS an emergency, you can be comfortable getting to safety - there is a spot on a life boat for each and every person on the ship, and you'll know where it is.

Emergencies like that are rare on cruise ships today ; disasters like Titanic helped prepare us more for what to do in the event of a problem. Plus, we have MUCH more technology now - GPS, satellites, better radar and other communications. If there was any sort of problem, Coast Guard and other ships would be notified right away, and you won't have to spend long - if any time at all - in those lifeboats. Another boat will come and rescue you ASAP.

I've been on many cruises, and never had a problem. Still, after seeing how prepared they are now, I feel that I'd be safe if there ever was one. And once you get on the cruise, it's so much fun, you won't worry at all!

they have safety boats on the ships for everyone.. if the ship ever were to sink everyone would board those boats and then sale to land..

I've been on four cruises and have enjoyed them all. On the first day of the cruise, there is a required life boat drill in which all passengers must put on their life jackets (stored in their stateroom closet) and report to their particular muster site. It is all very organized and professional. The life boats are used as tenders to take passengers to and from shore in those ports in which it is not possible for the large ship to dock. There are emergency provisions on each life boat. There's really nothing to worry about; cruise ship sinkings are rare nowadays.

The Titantic was high-tec for its time too & it went down like a rock. Depending on where you're going you'll probably have more to worry about getting an on-board illness or pirates.
