You wanted a trick of the trade - so I'm going to give away one of my best kept secrets to all my Yahoo friends, in exchange for your "Best Answer" votes.

For FREE transportation between the FLL airport and the cruise terminal, go to the new car rental center by Terminal 1 and just hop on the courtesy shuttle to the pier. Works like a charm - nothing to show or present. You can also do this at the end of your cruise to get back to the airport! I've done it before and will be doing it again in February.

Since it's only about 10 minutes away, a cab is about $11.50; with a tip, $15.00, that's much better than the cruise line's transfer of $15.00 per person!

Good luck with your upgrade. Those are given to their Platinum or Diamond "Crown & Anchor Society" members.

Most cruise liners have conection transports that could be pre booked. Some off them have stands (look for your cl:s sign) where you could see them. I dont knew if you can book transport with them on the airport but its worth a try if you cant do that before. Check with your travell agent or your booking on the cls webpage. Johan

Take a taxi, it is generally $15-$20.00 per car. Its easy, go to the lugguage claim, claim your lugguage, go directly outside and bear left. At the end, you will see a serviceman who will hail you a cab. So simple!!!

Royal Caribbean will only offer a birthday cake, but you must have your travel agent contact the ship

We took a shuttle from the airport to the ship, but we also got there a day early and stayed at a hotel the night before, so ours we technically free. Cabs there are not too much we took one to go eat and it was only about 10 bucks for 6 miles Have fun, what ship are you going on???

When I cruised out of Port Lauderdale, I too flew into Fort Lauderdale first.

The cruise line supplied bus transportation, but the flight I took in was chartered just for the purpose of the cruisers.

It seems that without that available to you, you are looking at a taxi or rental. It's not a short ride, but not too lengthy. A cab ride would be expensive. So would a rental car if you had to pay for it all the day's you were at sea.

There must be a rental car agency that has a location at the airport and at the port - Hertz, Avis, Enterprise, etc. As long as you can pick up, take one way, and drop off, it's probably your best option.

My family found out that renting a limo is actually cheaper than renting a cab so we took a limo to the airport. When we got to Puerto Rico, to get to the port, we took the shuttle bus that they provided.

If you are leaving from Ft Lauderdale too....Piece of cake, the port is less than 10 minutes from the airport. So either take a
taxi or grab Super Shuttle(blue mini van) It will not cost you much at all since it's so close.

And no way will you get an upgrade just because it's your birthday.....they don't play that!!!! You want an upgrade, you pay for an upgrade. It's all about $$$$$.
