You still ahve a week. don't worry about the storms. Here in Florida, storms come and go so quickly sometimes.
we have a saying here. If you don't like the weather, wait and hour, it will change. LOL.
But seriously, it may affect the first day onboard activities restricting the Lido deck but you will still have the dining room, and other areas on the ship to hang till you can get to your cabin.

Thunderstorms usually form and dissipate over the course of a few hours. I'm sure if it is stormy there now the chances of a thunderstorm in a week are remote. And, yes, it is perfectly safe to cruise when there is a thunderstorm. Just don't go out on the deck!

It's no problem as thunder storms usually don't last long. I think it would be kind of neat to be on a cruise ship with a good old thunder storm. If you do have a storm though, leave off your heavy metal bracelets, earrings and necklaces.

I have cruised through thunderstorms and it's exactly the same on a ship as it is on the land-- no real danger. I agree that during any electrical storm you should probably err on the side of caution and stay away from open decks or exposed metal outside, but if you have a covered balcony and non-metal furniture, it would probably be cool to watch. The cruise lines all have precautions for electrical storms and they will advise you if anything comes up.
