Not only will they not be able to buy alcoholic drinks onboard; they won't even be able to purchase a ticket unless they are traveling with a parent or guardian 25 years old or older per Carnival rules. If you are a group of college students looking to have fun, considering your ages, check out Royal Caribbean. 18-20 year olds can purchase ticket if they are in a room with an adult 21 or older. But you still cannot purchase alcoholic drinks on the ship. Thats not to say someone cannot purchase them for you. Drinking in port should be no problem since most of the caribbean countries have much lower drinking ages than the US. Have Fun! |

on the ship, they will card you. and you must be 21.
but once you're in mexico, basically so long as you can reach the bar, you can drink. |

wouldn't you like to know

My alcoholic husband packs alcohol in his suitcase every year we go on a cruise. Never got caught. Or if you have clear alcohol you can put it in large Zephryl Hill bottles and just carry them on the ship. They think its water. Never failed. He never brought the liquor of the ship because he had his own. Well, I think he just brought a couple of "Fun Ships" on our first day. Or you can just flirt with the bartender like someone said earlier. |

he drinking age on all cruise ships is age 21 or older. And it does not matter whether you are on the ship in a US or a foreign port, its the same. It does not matter that you are in international waters, its still age 21. The only exception to this is that some cruise lines will allow those over age 18 but under age 21 who are accompanied by a parent to drink beer and wine IF their parents sign a waiver to allow them to drink.
Here's what on the Carnival web site:
"Drinking Alcohol On Board
The minimum age for the purchase and/or consumption of alcoholic beverages in the bars, lounges and gift shops is 21 years of age. Carnival reserves the right to refuse the sale of alcoholic beverages to anyone. In the event that Bar/Restaurant/Gift Shop staff are in question that a guest is less than 21 years old, they shall request picture identification, prior to serving the drink or selling the bottle of liquor."
While those under 21 cannot drink on the ship, they will be able to drink in the bars and restaurants in port stops. The drinking age in all other countries is age 18 so you can enjoy yourself there. But don't try bringing alcoholic beverages back on ship; it will be confiscated. |

Just off the Carnival Valor and the answer is no. 21 is the magic rule. I am 22 and actually had to carry my driver's license with me the whole time because I kept getting carded. However there is nothing written in the rules about someone over 21 purchasing a drink for someone over 18. |

you have to be 18 in mexico but they'll serve you at 16 in bars. i'm not sure if they card for buying like bottles of liquor if thats what your asking but they'll serve you on the beach or in bars. |

Not on the ship. Your sail & sign cards are coded as to whether you are over 21. Of course, someone can buy drinks for someone else. As long as you don't get "stupid", there will not likely be a problem. If you do, the captain can put the "offender" and his/her cabin mates off at the next port. |
