On a scale of one to ten I would rate renting a house about a 2 or 3, depending on whether its a plain beach house in a place like Myrtle Beach or Miami vs a villa on a private island in the Caribbean.
On the same scale I would rate a cruise about a nine or 10, depending upon whether you selected an inside cabin on a Carnival ship vs a suite on Celebrity or Crystal Cruise lines.
Here's why.
You rent a beach house, drive there, unpack and then have to go to the grocery store for food and drinks. Then you have to cook, change/make up beds every day, clean up or at least keep things kinda neat, and you go out and sit on the deck or beach and enjoy the sun and the view. You do this for a whole week. Then for variety you get in the car and drive somewhere to eat, or to go to a movie, or shop, or whatever the place you stay in/at has to offer. You have some variety and options but basically the same ones for the whole week.
By contrast, you go board a cruise ship and the first thing you do after boarding is go to the lunch buffet. Then when you get your bags you unpack, put your clothes away and all of the activities and entertainment come to you. Your cabin steward cleans your cabin twice a day, making the beds, vacuuming, cleaning the bathroom, leaving fresh towels twice a day, filling your ice bucket and leaving fresh glasses. Then you can walk a short ways and use the gym and/or walk on the ship's walking/running track, get in the pools and hot tubs, or just lounge around them. Your scenery changes every day whether you are at sea or in a new port. So your opportunities for different beaches, different activities/sightseeing, shopping, or just strolling through the town are different each day. On ship you have all meals prepared for you and the selections are endless for breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you want you can order from the free room service menu; all of the food is free. You can dress up for dinner if you want or just go casual all week. If you like to play board games there is a place for that. If you need to get on the internet there are internet cafes on ship and in all ports. If you want to gamble there is a casino and besides that every evening there is a free show and there are multiple bars and lounges and a disco every evening. When you get to ports you will have your choice of a different beach in each to visit and lounge on, plus endless different shopping opportunities. |

A cruise offers you a full-time cook, maid and entertainment staff. You don't have to shop or stock your cabin as you would if you were renting a house. Plus, no clean up!
However, if your group is more private and does not like large groups of people, renting the house would be better.
Cruising is our holiday of choice. We cruise at least once a year and have taken our extended family (20-people in 2006 and 14-people in 2007). |

cruise is pretty fun. Someone else is cooking , and cleaning, and you get to enjoy the sites, the entertainment and the overall fun. You go to different areas and not just in one house or cabin.
have a good time what ever you decide.
