Going on my 1st Carnival Cruise, do they offer any alcohol passes?

I know they offer soft drink passes, but what about for bar drinks? This will be a 7 day Caribbean cruise on the Valor in Sept.
Any other advise or info on cruises would be helpful. This is my first one, and I tend to hate being around large crowds of people so Im worried it may not be for me.
Thx

Yes they do.. They have come out with a few more cards. There is a Coffee Card, a Soft Drink card and a Drink of the Day card.

The Drink of the Day cards have 5 "punches" which allows you 1 drink of the day in the sovenier cups and then 4 refills.

If you buy this card you can get any of the drinks of the day.. not just the drink of the day offered that day. Some bars will tell you that you can only get the one offered... if they tell you that go to a different bar.

I believe it is the card is $25-27 dollars.

It looks like this: http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e259/marie_morgan/DOD.jpg

There is no limit on the amount of these cards that you buy on the ship.. so if you drink a lot of the drinks of the day you can buy multiple cards.

You buy this card on the Ship

There is also Drink "coupons" you can buy ahead of time on the carnival website. This is for any drink and not just the drink of the day. It's only good ot a certain amount but if the drink is $1 more than the coupon you only pay $1.

This coupon is $21.25 and looks like this: http://www.carnival.com/CMS/images/ebvxl/images/SpecialtyItems/BarCreditsBAR.jpg

You can buy it here:

I have gone on about 5 cruises. They do not have any type of alcohol passes. This is were they make their money. A cruise ship needs to average about $8 per Passenger per day to just break even on the cruise. They do offer classes on drinking different types of liquor for a small charge and you can drink alot. They also have daily specials that do not cost that much. In regards to being around large crowds, there is always somewhere to go. The boat is going to be huge. Imagine the boat in your head how big it is going to be, and it will be even bigger in reality. Participate in some of the activities and you can win free drinks or bottles of booze. Have a great time.

Thomas
No such thing - that's where they make all their $$.

Julie T
No packages for bar drinks.

But you can take advantage of the "tasting" events and Captain's Cocktail party for some freebies.

Drinks run from $4-12 each plus an automatic 15% gratuity.

No, Sorry. Alcohol is probably where 70% of their money comes from.
However, They do offer a Fountan Fun Card. A F.F.C. entitles you to free sodas and juce during the Cruise for 30.00. Also they have a punch card 5-drinks = 5.95

Cruses are great! They arnt very crouded most of the time.

If you have any more questions please feel free to email me-

nope sorry that's where they make big $$$$

but i would consider the above advice. have done myself and it really cuts out on buying drinks.

Sorry, but the drinks on the cruise ships are a cash cow for the cruise line. They charge typical bar prices, too. You can buy a bottle of booze at a time from the bar and take it to your room. But, I priced a 1 liter bottle of Jack Daniels on a Carnival ship once and they wanted $60.

Here's what I do to get around paying those exorbitant prices: Before going on the cruise, I get a couple of 1.25 liter bottles of Arizona Iced Tea (diet green tea). These are brown plastic bottles where you can't really tell what's in them. I empty the bottles and refill them with whiskey or whatever (all the way to the top, so they won't slosh when tipped), and put the caps back on. I then pack them in a cardboard box with packing foam or newspaper, and tape up the box with packing tape. If you want to go a step further, you can wrap it like a birthday present. Finally, I pack it in the middle of a check-on bag for additional cushioning.

When you get on the ship, get a soda card for having mixed drinks (they have to serve it poured from the can into a glass, although you can order it without ice). When your bags get to your stateroom, the bar is open. Don't be shy about asking the stewards for more ice. That's their job and they're happy to do it. Or, you can get cups of ice from the dispensers on the Lido deck. On my last Carnival cruise, they had plastic insulated drink cups for sale that they would fill up for you at the soda bars. My wife and I each got one and used them to carry around our home-made mixed drinks around the ship for the entire cruise.

If you don't like crowds, you can sometimes avoid them by going all the way to the aft pool. They also have a topless sun deck around midships, which is adults only. Very few people go up there and you don't have to be topless.

When you get onto the ship, immediately head for the main dining room and get a table for two for dinner from the Maiter D'. There will be a line and it may take you a half hour to get to the desk. But, otherwise you'll be sharing a table with up to 6 other guests. On one cruise my wife and I (in our mid 40s) got put at a table for 8 with three couples of 60's - 70's Mexican peole who spole no English. It was kind of uncomfortable. But, we were able to get a table for two for the rest of the cruise (don't count on it if you don't do it immediately when you get on the ship).

If you have an internal or ocean view stateroom, consider upgrading to a balcony suite. That way you can sit out on your own balcony away from all the crowds. The best ones are on the back of the ship. But, they're expensive. My wife and I always get the ones in back on the corners. They have about 300 square foot rooms with separate bedroom, and about a 250 square foot, wrap-around balcony. On a week-long cruise, that might cost us about $3500 for the two of us. But, we think it's worth it.

not they dont they only have a soda card. I think they might have a drink program if you are going in a large group, like 30 people.
