Guaranteed staterooms? Do or don't?

Thinking about booking a guaranteed stateroom instead of picking a location and number, on RCCL. On the cruise I'm looking at a guaranteed room is like a hundred bucks cheaper than if I would just choose one. It's on the ship Navigator.Does anyone have any experiences with doing this? Do you think the guarantees are the crappiest rooms? Any responses would be great :)

I usually get the guaranteed stateroom to save the money. I usually get upgraded free too, which is nice - but is dependent on availability. If you are looking to save some pennies and don't have a problem with sea sickness, than I'd go with the GS. If you are prone to motion sickness, than I'd pick one of the center rooms.

Also if you have sleep issues and don't want to get stuck next to the anchor or elevator etc you should pick a room.

I don't care enough to spend the extra money. I'd rather spend that extra $100 on something fun :)

A guaranteed room is helpful if you have specific needs i.e. someone in your party is older or very young and you want to be near the elevator or someone is susceptible to motion sickness so you want to be in the middle of the ship. If this doesn't apply to you then save yourself the money and just go with a guaranteed room. You'll spend very little time in your room. Also, as stated by another poster, if the cruise line can, they will upgrade you. If you pick your room then that will be the room you get, even if upgrades are available.

You are basically at the mercy of the cruiseline, but if where your room is located makes no difference then go ahead and save the money......some peoplke have had great experiences with GTY and others got the oars (lol) ....as long as you are flexable and dont care go for it

Personally, I don't think you have much to worry about. RCCL is one the best and nicest cruise lines out there, and I honestly can't see any of their rooms being "crappy." Just do it, the only thing that may be crappy is it is a far walk from the elevator or on the bottom floor, but honestly who cares about that.

When you book a guarantee for a specific category--look at all the rooms in that category If there is a room that you would absolutely dislike then dont do the guar. But if you are ok with all the rooms then do it. worst case is you get the worst room in that category but you have a chance to get bumped up.

most past passengers opt for guarantees while 1st time cruisers want to pick out their cabin.
