well first you would become a licensed hairdresser. then i would look into the options of job openings and see the qualifications that are required by the particular opening.

To be able to withstand seasickness, and be able to work in situations with movement.

First you should become a hairdresser

Check out http://www.str.co.uk/ . That is the training academy for Steiner Beauty, who is the largest concessionaire for Cruise Ship Spa services.

I know someone who is a beautician on a cruise ship. You need the highest qualification to work on them. This is because they are very fastidious about maintaining a high standard. Its no good finding out four days out to see that the hairdresser is a relation of sweeney todds is it!
Google 'working on cruise ships' and you will probably find what you are looking for.

Many cruise ships contract out for their spa company on the ship! They use places like Mandara Spa (NCL), Steiner Management Inc (Carnival), and Lotus (Princess). Some you must apply with those companies, and others you can go on the cruise ship of your desire and click on jobs at the very bottom, there it'll tell you the qualifications you need. While things are changing over time, they prefer nonUS citizens (I think because they are too cheap for labor), but it varies from each cruise ship company.

You need to have an nvq or equivalent in hairdressing and you can search for jobs online.

Get the hairdresser thing down first by attending beauty school. Then go to the cruiselines various websites. They should have links to apply for jobs.
