Has anyone been on a Carnival cruise? What can/can't you bring?

A friend of mine went on Royal Caribbean and she said they don't search your bags, only put them through an x-ray machine. Do they do the same at Carnival? I wanted to bring my own liquor bottles to save money - and also plenty of bottles of water. And my own hair dryer/straightener. My friend seems to thing as long as I roll it all up in my clothes and such that I will get away with it. Is there any reason why they would search my bags? I don't want to get in trouble - but I also want to save myself from spending $1,000 on liquor/water while I'm there for 5 days! Anyone who has advice would be greatly appreciated =) Thank you!

you can bring your hairdryer. I would also suggest bringing a surge protector (there are not many outlets in the cabins). You could try the other stuff, but is it worth them searching it ?

have a great cruise.

I've been on 10 cruises, 2 of them Royal and 2 of them Carnival (both lines within the last year in fact). They do the same thing. They have dogs sniffing the big stacks of bags looking for drugs and explosives. If they smell something, then they'd search.

Make sure to put your bottles inside ziplocks to protect your clothes from any leakage. They don't allow hard liquor, so many people are pouring that into other containers like mouthwash (adding food color), water, shampoo, etc. They should have their rules on the site, but there's a limit on how much wine you can take too. There is no limit on taking water, but they have drink stations with filtered water and ice available 24/7, and your room steward will keep your ice bucket full if you tell him/her that you want to always have ice.

For much more about cruising I suggest this site. It's an active community, and you can find other people going on the same sailing as you and read reviews of your ship as well as ask questions like this and get many more answers. I've heard you have to hide the hard liquors even in check-in, because lines are cracking down more to control drunkeness, and the x-ray is mightier than the clothes roll. There are always conversations on cruisecritic about this, so you can find out the current trend.

Put CLEAR liquor in sprite bottles. Light colored liquors in Ginger ale bottles and dark liquors in pepsi/coke bottles. You can't smuggle on more than one liter bottles otherwise it will raise suspision. If they suspect that your "water" isn't water they will shake the bottle. If bubbles appear then they know it's a thicker than water substence and confiscate it so by puting it in soda bottles it lowers suspisions. (I heard this advice from a bartender on board.)
I always carry it on as though I was just partaking of the beverage to insure the least amount of suspision.
You can bring as much water as you'd like. I wouldn't travel with it though. I'd buy it in port just before you board the ship.
I never bring a hair dryer because there is one in every cabin. I don't bother bringing anything that is already provided.
BUT I do bring an alarm clock with me because the wake up calls are unreliable and there are no clocks on the ship except in the stairwells.

I am a UK travel agent.

Don't do it! Cruise companies are wise to all the tricks - they want to make money out of your liquor bill! Read the terms & conditions: not only will they confiscate it, some say they can deny you boarding, without compensation, for breaching their rules.

I thought I drank a lot - a $1000 in 5 days on liquid refreshment - I am impressed!

Terms:

All alcohol, additional quantities of wine/champagne and excessive non-alcoholic beverages will be confiscated and discarded without compensation. Alcoholic beverages purchased in the vessel’s gift shops or at a port of call will be retained by Carnival until the end of the voyage......... Guest agrees that Carnival has the right to disembark any guest who violates this policy......

i put a special champagne bottle in my suit case and they didint care but when you get out in the sea the liquor store is tax free and duty free and you can get bottles for really cheap

I went on Royal Caribbean and they searched my bag. They are randomly searched. The best thing to do is to go to the site and get a number to call and ask a rep. Make sure to get the reps name or id and make notes of the conversation along with the date that you called. You can purchase alcohol in the countries, but the ships do not usually allow passengers to keep them in their rooms.

Carnival allows 1 bottle of wine and NO liquor. They understandably want to make money off of you puchasing it from them.

a friend of mine takes her own liquor. and she has never had any problems. I never have. You can take any kind of toiletries you want

they wont allow your liquor unless you sneak it on ( but you didn't hear that from me ) hair dryer is fine and also your straightener .i went on a cruise and me and my man ended up spending 500.00 on alchol but it was for me and him and we would buy people (our friends) shots and drinks too you just gotta have a limit if you want more info email me :)

PRiSCiLLA
they actually DO search your bags.
You can't bring water, or liquids, and explosives

and you cant hide that stuff cuz they scan your bags and look in it themselves.
