When I went on my first cruise, there was no internet, and of course no Yahoo! Answers, and I am glad. Because I think it would have taken all of the fun out if it.
Part of the fun, is exploring and not knowing what to expect and discovering things on your own. What fun is it, if you already know everything?
So, just go, explore, have fun. If you need to be somewhere at a certain time, they'll tell you. But, for someone here to tell you that you need to do this or that right away, is just stupid. |

I have been on more than 20 cruises and so here's my advice. First, when you first get on the ship go check out your cabin if its ready. Then lunch will be ready so go grab a bite to eat. Then just walk around the ship and check out all of its facilities and take photos. Some places like the spa they will give you a tour of the facilities. The pools, hot tubs and gym will be open when you first board so bring clothes in your carry-on to do those if you want.
The things that you can do on ship will vary by the cruise line and the ship. Many of the newer ships of all of the cruise lines have more activities than there are on the older ships. Things that may be available depending upon the ship:
- use the pools, hot tubs and water slides
use the full service gymnasium with all types of free weights and exercise machines
use the full service spa where you can get hair and nails done and massages and wraps.
- use the sauna and/or steam rooms
- use the mini-golf course and/or a golf driving range or golf simulator
- use the roller blade track and/or an ice skating rink.
- use the rock climbing wall.
- use the basketball/volleyball/tennis court
- play table tennis
-use the over sized Chess/Checker sets and shuffle board
- use the walking/ jogging track
- play in the video arcade
- go to the show room (about 8:00PM) where there will be a show every evening, one for each dinner seating
- use the game room with games and cards provided
- use the internet cafe
- use the library with books provided or bring your own
- go to the disco that is open every night starting about 11:00 PM and lasting until the last person leaves.
- go to the piano bar and a sports bar; all ships will have lounges and cocktails bars at various places on ship
- some ships have a small movie theater and you can also watch movies (most for free) in your cabin.
- order the free 24/7 room service
- after the ship sails, go to the casino for gambling if you are old enough
- enjoy a huge variety of food and plenty of it, seconds and thirds are OK too.
- sit on a deck or your cabin's balcony and watch the ocean go by.
- go to art auctions, to lectures and learning seminars on some ships
- go to the Karaoke bar
- go to the wine tasting if you are old enough
- shop for souvenirs
There may even be a few others things that I have not listed. Some are for adults only and some are for kids only. Remember that not all ships have all of these things. Some may have only a few. |

I would have been best if you had stated the ship, itinerary, and length of cruise so that we can inform you better.
All they are saying is true but you need to know that the only free juice is at breakfast. You also have to pay for all alcoholic beverages except for the Formal Night/Captain's Ball when they come around and give you complementary. If you order wine in the restaurant you will have to pay for it. You ship pass is link to your credit card which you will use for disembarking, embarking the ship, purchases on ship, coming back through the different ports and entering the restaurant. If you use the ship pass it will reflect on your credit card when you get home. Spa treatments and the internet cafe can be very expensive.
Look out for specials especially the last night
The ship excursions are expensive as well but we usually go out and bargain with the taxi drivers.
bring your sunscreen/sunblock
bring your swim wear
Bring something formal for formal night and if there is a man in the group he will not be allowed in some dining rooms unless he has on a tie. People really dress up in their best so be prepared.
Your picture will be taken in almost every port as well on formal night. You can take as much as you like but if you go to purchase they can be very expensive. It might not be for you but it was for me.
learn all the dances like salsa, meringue, line dancing and rumba if the ship is offering it
read the on-board newspaper that is push under your door at night because it has lots of information
You might have to pay a gratuity which might be US10.50 per person per day but can be adjusted.
Take some arm band for seasickness because the sea can be very rough
If you are not sure what time you want to eat you can choose 'anytime dining' (some ships). They usually have two sittings as well as two shows. I think it was 6:30 and 8:30 pm for the dinner and 8:30 and 10:30 for the shows. There is more than one restaurant as well as a buffet. There are also specialty restaurants like 'Steak House' which is about $15-25. Some ship also have ice cream stations but not all are free.
If you do not mind paying for all these services then they will not be expensive for you. That is just my opinion. |

Yes, I've been on 2 Caribbean cruises. They are loads of fun. You can do as much or as little as you want. They have plenty of food to eat, places to shop, a library, a pool, hot tub, offer salon and spa services for an extra fee, offer shore tour excursions for an extra fee. Also, the ship has a disco, theatre, casino, and live entertainment. You can take yoga and many other classes on board the ship. There's also shuffleboard, basketball, skeet shooting and other sports in which you can participate. You should receive a schedule of events on board ship each day in your room. The first thing you should do is decide where you want to go, how much you can spend, and what cruise ship you want to travel on. Some cruises are family-oriented, others may be for singles, some for younger/older people. Choose the one that suits you best. Happy cruising! |

I went to a cruise 1 year ago through the caribbean: St. Thomas, St. Martin, Curacao, Aruba etc. I recommend you to chill and enjoy it! It's a real nice experience. First, when you get in, try leaving all your packages and all in your room and go out! EXPLORE. Don't stay in your room, but! It is important that you read the papers they leave you in the room so you can see which activities they are going to have while their at sea. Don't miss anything! That's one of the biggest error I had, I missed some stand up comedies, shows and I regret it! Believe me, they are great when they do those shows. When you arrive to an island, always have a "watch" with you so you can know which time is it and at what time the cruise is leaving. Enjoy shopping outside of the cruise, eat their local food (but be careful) DO NOT drink water if it's not in the cruise. Meet people! That's the greatest thing you can do! Simply enjoy it and relax! Oh and when then cruise it's moving do not worried if you feel a bit dizzy, it's completely normal.. you will get used to the movement easily if you don't think about it. and the key is to HAVE FUN! |

I have been on two Carnival cruises and one Royal Caribbean- I'm going on another Carnival that starts this Valentine's Day. They are amazing. I was shocked how great the service was the first time I went. They hire people from all over the world, so their English may not be the best, but they are soooo sweet (and the waiters always remember your drinks and bring them to you every night)! I always buy the soda cards, and they have proved to be very helpful- if I hadn't, the bill would have been tremendous. When you first get on, they give you a card for purchasing stuff aboard and you need it to get on and off the ship at ports. There are some great shore excursions. I was in St. Thomas USVI last year and we did something underwater (not scuba or snorkeling) and they put this big astronaut helmet thing on us and it was sooo cool. I would highly recommend swimming with dolphins, too. Very fun, especially if traveling with children. If you plan on taking straighteners, curling irons, etc, be aware that they MIGHT not work. The food is great, the shows are great, and you will not regret going. They are sooo fun and everyone loves them! They also have great interactive games and shows. Last year on the Royal Caribbean one we were at a magic show (they also had great ice shows!) and they were very interactive and great. Royal Caribbean cruises also have Johnny Rocket restaurants and Ben and Jerry's too. They are fair-priced. I hope you have tons of fun (I'm sure you will!) and I will warn you that all pools and hot tubs are filled with saltwater. Good luck!
xoxo

If you haven't yet read everything on the cruise line's web site, do it! And with questions you still have, post them under "cruise travel" and you will get lots of good answers to specific questions. You're going to have a wonderful adventure! |
