Has anyone ever taken their own alcohol in their suitcase on a cruise?

Just a random question. Is this possible?

Depends with which company you cruise.
We take a couple of wine boxes--on board they sell cabin bottles of spirits at a bargain price.
Respectable passengers are also free to bring on board alcohol from ports of call

Rene B
It's possible. Some place the alcohol in familiar containers like mouthwash bottles and pass them off as such. The only thing is you have to drink in your own room and this is no fun. If you have ever been on a cruise before, you will realize it's no fun doing this. You go on a cruise to enjoy so why go to the trouble of packing your alcohol, hiding it, and praying to high heavens you don't get caught(altho they will simply confiscate the liquor and return the same to you after the cruise is over). Besides, if you can afford to cruise, surely you can afford an extra 300-400$ for your booze and drink without guilt. Others will brag about being able to put one over the ship crew but did they really enjoy the drinks they smuggled on board? What could be nicer than leisurely sipping your drink sitting on the main deck or in the casino or the restaurants and enjoying yourself or other people's company? Think about it.

david
Dont even try it. Rest Assured that the cruise lines do check your luggage for alcohol and if they do find it they will confiscate it until the end of the cruise. I have witnessed this more than one time.

Wendy
I understand people have taken it in their checked baggage(try putting in in containers that AREN"T shaped like booze bottles.Don't even try to putit in your carry on(unless you use a water bottle cause they xray all that stuff and you will get caught.best way we found was to just bring it on our person(stuffed down your pants or in your socks) remember if you are getting off at different ports you can get some there also(just mean don't feel like you have to try to get alot on at a time)enjoy it,cause it will taste MUCH better than the 7.00 drinks!

I've taken wine on every cruise that I have been on with no problems. These have all been with Princess cruises. Their rules even state that it is OK to bring wine on for special occasions. We always bring it in the checked luggage.

Johan from Sweden
Dont do that. Any alcoholic beverages will be taken for the duration off the cruise and returned at the end off it and there is an airport style check in screaning off your luggage when youre boarding the ship. There is also security checks in all port of calls as you board yorue ship after a shore excursion.

The reason for this is tightening security after 9/11 and the fact that one of the biggest revenue income for cruise lines is selling alcohol. Like it or not. Johan.

you can't. When you arrive at the cruise ship, your baggage is taken, checked, then put in front of your door after the ship departs. It won't make it past security.

**Also, remember if you are flying there is a regulation on how much liquid you can pack. You wouldnt be able to get more than a few ounces past and Im pretty sure if it's alc, they will throw it out right away because of the risk that you might try to start a fire on the plane.

Most people do it. Just put it in water bottles and pack it in your luggage. Bringing vodka back on board from an island is simple, just fill your Dasani bottle with it. If you want to bring on whiskey, put it in a colored pop bottle. While on board, you can go up to the Lido Deck restaurant and bring some lemonade back to the room for mix.

One facet of this subject that has not been touched upon is "corkage fees." I recently took a two-month cruise around South America and a friend sent a case of wine to the ship. The wine was delivered without comment to my cabin. I would take a bottle to my table on formal nights and share it with my table mates. The waiter added a minimal amount like $3 or $5 to the bill for uncorking it for us.

A lot of ships are okay with you bringing your own wine on board. You can drink it in your room, but if you want to bring a bottle of wine to the dining room, you have to pay a corkage fee.

Kristina L
i bring alcohol in water bottles or mouth wash bottles. I've never had a problem. Most cruise lines will allow you to bring wine or champagne on the ship.
