Has anyone gotten a great deal on a cruise by walking on the day of the cruise? ?

Someone told me she met a couple who walked on board the cruise at the last minute and since there were empty rooms they got an amazing deal. Anyone know about this?

This is one off the classical urban myth that still is around! Maybe it was thrue in the past but it isnt any more!

Cruise lines has to turn in passenger lists at least 24 hour prior to departure and that list had to be complete meaning that this fact alone prevent you from just walking up to a ship and get a deal. This is mostly the aftermath from 9/11.

Besides that most cruise lines like to sell theyre cruises before boarding the boat. Theyre can do that by letting out any none booked cabins on the net or through travel agents. Cruise lines prices changes all the time to ensure a full booked cruise ship when it sail. Thus youre best bet is to check last minute deals on the net rather than turn up at the dock. Even thou it generally is cheaper to book a cruise well in advance. Johan.

I booked a cruise 3 weeks ago via Vacationstogo.com for next week.

We got a Junior Suite with balcony for 840USD each (no flights included) for 9 day Mediterranean cruise. There are last minute bargains about!
As the other answerer said it is now nigh on impossible to "walk on". We are boarding from BARCELONA and the Spanish authorities have also a pre vetting system!

I work in the aviation industry, and just like flying...you have to submit a passenger list with passport details, etc. (if cruising out of the country) to show who is on your flight. This is to pre-clear customs and provide security. As mentioned earlier, this is due a lot to September 11th...so, to answer your question...no, you cannot just walk up. Now, it you wait till the month before, you can get some amazing deals!

that can't be possible, you have to book, tell them of dietary needs, sign forms, etc. wouldnt you have to pack your clothes? i dont think you'd be walking on a ship with all your clothes and stuff.

anyway - usually you get a great deal on cruise ships. and they are usually pretty much sold out. cruises are popular these days!

Walk up no, but you can get some good deals 1 or 2 days before if there is still availability.

Good luck!

This does not sound true to me because you can't just walk on a cruise because you have to have some kind of documentation. You have to have the ship pass before you go on the ship and you can only get on with it. It is possible that they booked maybe when they had a cancellation and it was offered up. Many times they have a 1-day sale.
