A friend of mine booked hers two weeks in advance and got an interior room really cheap.
By the time you get the the terminal, the ship is almost always booked up; if there are any no-show cancellations, the cruiselines probably wouldn't know.
I wouldn't waste time waiting at the terminal.

You can't just go to the terminal and get on a ship. The ship has to submit its passenger list several days before it sails in order to clear security. For cruises, "last minute" can mean anything from a week or two to a couple of months. Check VacationToGo.com - they have a list of cruises within the next 90 days, some of them very soon. It's an easy site to navigate and get info from, whether or not you book with them.

As long as the ship is not sold out you have a chance of getting a last minute deal. Some cruise lines make you book up to 3 days prior while some like Carnival lets you book 24 hours out.
