Has anyone taken a cruise with a small child?

My husband and I are having big-deal birthdays this year (me 30 and him 40) and he wants to take a cruise to celebrate. I love going on cruises but we have a 6 month old son and I'm so worried that I won't be able to have fun this time. I'm also crazy worried about him falling off the ship...is that unnecessary? Has anyone taken a cruise with a little one and still had fun?
Additional Details
Of course I want to have fun as a family but I'm more concerned that this will be a great vacation for my husband and a very expensive week of just like being at home for me.

Leave the baby at home. Seriously, if you have any family that can keep him just go on a shorter cruise and leave him behind. Mom & Dad could probably use the alone time if you have had a 6 month old in the house.
I tool my kids on a cruis when the youngest was 6 and oldest 10. At this age they canremember the experiance and have a bit of freedom. I can lay at the pool and not worry about them running up and down the stairs to the water slide.
If leaving the child behind is not an option, Carnivals Camp Carnival is great with kids.
Also, if your baby goes overboard, you will be in jail. You can not accidently drop someone overboard without neglect.

i know on royal caribbean they have trained crew members who watch your kids. your kid will meet other kids his age and will get to play games to. the kids r feed and carefully watched. there is a pick up time at like 7 or 8. this way you can have fun with your husband and your child by going out to dinner and maybe watching one of the shows or even relaxing in your room. don't worry your kid won't fall off the boat, there is always people around watching and there is locks on the balcony door that a 6 month old couldn't open

depending on what cruise line you're taking, they alot of times have daycare centers and like play places where they watch your kids for you.

and don't worry, i had that fear in the back of my head about the little ones falling off the ship-it really isn't likely unless you let him run around places he shouldn't be.

Cruising with a 6 month old? OMG.

I think you've already answered your own question...fun for your husband, but for you?...just like being at home.

Wait until you and hubby celebrate 40 and 50 years and your baby is 10 years old and can have his/her own fun.

U should add "as a family" into that question, otherwise it looks kinda bad...!
