Have you ever been on a P&O cruise? |
Just wondering what kind of dresses did the women wear at the formal events. Were they very glitzy? I like to "dress up" but dont want to make a fool of myself by taking something that stands out and looks ridiculous! |

I've been on the Oriana. Yes it was (ie long gowns for women on the formal nights). Some nights are very formal (eg Captain's Party) others less so. I also suggest you pack some semi-formal wear for the other nights. Have fun x |

Been on about 30 P&O cruises.
Usually 4 or 5 Formal Nights in a 14 night cruise.
I find one long evening dress -Debenhams are good, and 2 or 3 long skirts with fancy tops. Not too pricey but always look good.
Be sure 1 long skirt & top are black or black & white as you would look out of place on ''Black & White Night''
But the main thing is to relax & enjoy yourself--you'll meet some of the friendliest people on board. |

weve been on the oceana 3 times and loved every minute of it. on the formal nights, believe you me,you will not look out of place one bit. everyones suited and booted, and its a real friendly atmosphere. the first time we went i felt apprehensive about putting on my tux,but once you get out there you find ,you were worrying about nothing. its a fantastic experience and one you will thoroughly enjoy,im looking forward to ours in october, were going on there new ship the ventura...any more questions you might like to add, just feel free to e-mail me. bon-voyage.....RIGGSxx |

Went on The Oriana a couple of years ago for a 2-week cruise.
First and last nights are "Informal Dress".
Formal nights are nights at sea
Others are semi-formal
There was also a theme night of "black and white"
Formal nights - I wore a long and flowing number one night - small straps with a bolero. Long black skirt with different cocktail tops & glitzy jewellery, on others. Husband wore a DJ - black tie
Semi-formal I wore cocktail
Informal, something pretty and tidy to dinner in the main dining rooms. But you can eat in other restaurants (with a small charge for, say, the Bistro, but the food is even more upmarket) and just be tidy or smart. Things like trainers, beach shoes and jeans not worn to dinner
There is a small boutique on most ships, with reasonable prices, so you can add to your wardrobe.
You will receive a newsletter posted to your cabin every evening which will tell you the state of formality for the next night.
We also had an Indian Buffet night (for which you needed to book, in the Conservatory) - the staff all wore Indian clothes and so did a few of the passengers who were obviously seasoned cruisers. |
