Have you ever been on a cruise and had to go to the medical facilities on board?

Yes, we were in the barbados, and were on an ATV excursion. My stearing stopped working and led me off a 15 foot cliff. I flipped over the handle bars and rolled half way down the cliff. When I looked up, all I saw was the ATV rolling towards me. I put my head down, and it rolled right over my back. I was lucky to be alive. They gave me ice and took me back to the ship where the medical staff took xrays of me and checked me out. They gave me medication and were real nice. They didn't charge me because it was on one of their excursions, but otherwise it does get charged to your sail and sign card. They called me every day to check on me. I thought their staff was really great. I was concerned about what kind of facilities they would have on a ship, but after 10 cruises, I found out. I am glad to be alive, and glad they were so helpful. You will be in good hands.

A few years ago, my brother-in-law had pains in his chest and arms on our last evening, when we were on the Legend of the Seas in the Caribbean, which got worse as the night went on.
He went to the Medical Centre and they gave him all the tests for a heart attack etc: and kept him there for the rest of the night.
It cost $900 for the tests and an indigestion tablet.
The charge went straight onto to his credit card as his shipboard card was closed. He had to agree to have the costs charged to his credit card before he received any treatment.
The travel insurance covered all the costs.
My brother-in-law still thinks that the treatment he received was really good and was well worth the money, if it had happened on a land holiday abroad, he thinks that, a doctor, ambulance, hospital tests and treatment would have been a lot more expensive.

Yes - it is very, very expensive. And you have to pay cash (with your SeaPass) they do not take your insurance card. Try to avoid it at all costs.

I personnally have not, but my g/f and i went with another couple and while everyone was going through that mandatory life jacket training crap, my g/f's friend passed out, hit the deck! Not funny at the time, but was later on...the staff turned out to be really nice and ended up sendin us a bottle of wine at dinner time!

Time travler
Yes, my husband forgot his prescription when we were in Australia. That was our starting point. Another guy had left his diabetes meds in a cab. Princess cruise staff took us by car to the pharmacy in Sidney, we got our meds and then they took us back to the ship. Luckily the ship was not sailing till 10pm. They really treated us very nice. Alls well that ended well.

My Dad got seriously ill on a cruise. We took him to the irformary. They were very professional, but friendly. We had a Scottish Dr. The room was equipped just like a hospital emergency room. They were able to take an EKG, give IV fluids and meds and sent him back to his room to rest. Then, he was told to come back the next day. He recovered just fine. Between his medical ins. and the special trip ins. we opted for, all costs were covered.

TINKERTOY ..... the 1 & only
Yes, I caught a cold or something and couldn't stop coughing. So went to the Dr and he examined me and prescribed meds. Cost a lot of money too for the exam and the meds were not too much.
