Hawaii cruise and passport? |
i'm planning to go on one of those hawaii cruises that leaves from los angeles.
I know I don't need a passport or ID to travel from LA to Hawaii. But, it will stop by Ensenada, Mexico before return LA. Will I have to show my passport, if I stay in the ship when it just stays at the dock?
Anyone has experienced passport check while staying in the cruise ship? |

Anytime a ship returns to US after visiting a foreign port you have to show your passport. Doesn't matter if you get off or not. US immigrations will board the boat before you get to LA.
It only takes a few mins. They will circulate a flyer with the time for each deck to visit with immigrations. Don't get there early it only adds to the wait. We went early and was in line for about 40 mins. We went by the room later when It was suppost have been our time and no one was in line. Would have been no wait if we had went by the time. |

Having your passport with make things a ton easier when you are embarking on the ship, but other then that, if you're on the ship don't worry. You can go on shore excursions in Ensenada or get off on your own, and the only thing you would need to get back on the ship is your ship card, and ID. They take digital pictures of you, so in case someone else got your card, and tried to get on the ship, then you wouldn't be able too... Have fun... |

The law for Cruise ships has not yet gone into effect, only air travel is subject to the new passport restrictions. So if you did not need a passport in the past then you will not need one now. The more restrictive laws were to go into effect in January 2008 but it looks as if that will be delayed or even scrapped. |

no you will not need a passport because you will be traveling by ship. Even if you got off since you are not starting from a foreign port you dont have to have a passport. |
