Hello, have a question regarding carnival cruises, did I pay too much? |
Okay, I had a last minute cruise decision with a friend of mine and I that we wanted to attend. We signed up for Carnival. We booked within 6 days before the cruise (we are leaving this Sunday, May 25). They said they were almost sold out and had 1 room left. So we decided to take it. So they charged us a total of 1800, total for 2 people (900 each of us) without medical insurance.
So we got the small room with no window, but its on the upper deck area, not at the bottom area. All ammenties (food, drinks (non alcholic), activities are included)
My question for a last minute deal, within 6 days of traveling this reservation, is this a fair deal? (including this last minute) |

First of cruise lines do NOT normally give "last minute deals". The normal pricing of cruises is an "early booking" discount for booking around a year in advance and then the price starts to go up as the cruise date approaches. The price within 30 to 45 days before the cruise will be as high as it will get. Now some cruise lines will have "specials" where they may reduce the price; like these Carnival specials ( http://www.carnivalcruiselines.com/cms/Static_Templates/Promos/offers_08/052208_ODS.aspx?WT.mc_id=BhmpgflashODSMay2208 ) . But in your case you may or may not have gotten a "special".
Now I assume that your cruise is a 7-day and you got an inside cabin. I have been on about 20 cruises and have 3 booked right now. So I do pay attention to cruise prices. The price that you got seems high for what you could get if you had booked 9 months ago or shopped around for specials. These specials on Carnival are less than what you paid: http://www.carnivalcruiselines.com/cms/fun/specials/default.aspx
So at this point all of the concerns you have about price are moot; you can't do anything about it except learn from the experience for next time. So just forget about it and enjoy your cruise to the max. |

I would say no but you didn't list your ship or itinerary. Back in 06' I cruised on the Miracle for 7 days, Western Caribbean, balcony room, etc. for $1100.00 per person. |

I am a fanatic about finding cruise bargains and routinely check pricing about 3 times per week even when not planning on booking a cruise. Alot of cruise companies do offer last minute cruises but booking 6 days out is a little too last minute. My next cruise which takes place next month was booked about a week or so ago and I was able to get an inside cabin on an upper deck for just over 1600 for 2 people (all fees included). With a little bit of research one should never have to pay more than 900 per person for a 7 day cruise.
I wouldn't say you got a deal but you didn't get ripped off either. |

yea that was a good deal. All that matters in the end is the fun you had and were you go. |

it sounds like it might be a bit much, but not sure where you're going. also since it was on the upper deck that might be why it's a little higher, but it still seems a bit high to me. oh yeah, i just thought of this, it is a holiday weekend and the cruises are always a little more on holiday weeks, so that might be a fair price. but in any case, since you've already booked it, don't worry about the price and just go and have a wonderful time- i cruise all the time and have never regretted it, you'll have a great vaca!!! |

It sounds like a lot. But it depends on where you are sailing to and for how long. |

You should check out this site and compare it to your cruise. Look at the dreamtrips also...good prices. |

SINCE YOU ARE LEAVING ON A SUNDAY I AM GOING TO ASSUME THAT YOU ARE GOING ON A ONE WEEK CRUISE BUT I CANT TELL WHERE YOU ARE GOING. FOR A LAST MINUTE DEAL IT IS A LITTLE BIT EXPENSIVE. I WOULD THINK THAT A LAST MINUTE DEAL WITHOUT A BALCONY WOULD BE ABOUT 750 INSTEAD OF 900. STILL THINK OUT IT THIS WAY DIVIDE THE COST OF THE TRIP INTO THE NUMBER OF DAYS AND YOU WILL GET A BETTER FEELING ABOUT YOUR CRUISE. |

My husband and I just went on a Carnival Cruise "Elation" 5 day cruise last week and had a window view on the bottom deck "R" and paid $1080 total
I don't care if it's the last room, you got robbed. |

If you booked with the cruise line direct you can call them today and see if the fare came down. Carnival is offering a SALE this week -- just try.
For the kind of fare that you paid you can also ask for on board credit...
Good luck! |

You didn't mention how many days the trip is or what the itinerary is, or whether the price included any perks like airport transfers, pre-paid gratuities, or on-board credit.
And, unless you book a suite, all rooms on cruise ships are small.
Pricing for last minute deals can go both ways. And, even a few weeks difference in departure dates can make huge differences in the price. December is a good example.
Assuming the usual (for me anyway) 7-day Caribbean trip out of a Florida, this seems like an awful lot. More than I would pay.
Buying cruise travel is not unlike buying anything else. You need to familiarize yourself with the prices and what they buy so you can recognize a deal when you see it.
Hope you came out OK on the air fare. Even fewer last-minute deals there these days.... |

no not really when its last minute and that time of may it should be more like 500 or 600 a piece. |

yeah i think so. we payed more than that for the same things, but we are going at christmas time... but there are also three of us. but i am pretty sure you got a fair deal. 900 bucks is pretty cheap. |

I personally don't like cruises and think any money spent on one is wasted money but to speak objectively no, you didn't overpay. It's a very fair deal. Stop worrying and enjoy your trip! |
